Hard work to get a feed Sunday out off two rocks

Left two rocks marina at 7am sunday and went straight to a new spot we found 2 weekends ago that was loaded with fish in rocky 40-45m ground. 2 metre+  swell predicted and going along the lead line was no problem, 25km out the swell was BIG, I reckon 4 easily 5 metre swells were rolling all day. I was using bait and the brother was jigging, within 5 minutes of first drift bang i was on with the ripper 78cm pinkie pictured. Brother got a hit on the jig but lost the fish. We thought yeh yeh you beauty! gonna be another fishy day like last time but boy were we wrong. After the pinkie I caught it went dead - not even reefie pickers. I started losing a few 10/0 owner circles to bolt cutters and me brother had his favourite jig bitten off, that pissed us off so we moved. From then on for the next 4 hours we tried all our spots in that area that have fished well and new ground we found in between for nothing, not even little reef pickers which seemed really strange, never had a session like it. There were 3 or 4 other boats around us and we noticed they all did afew drifts then kept moving away to new spots so i reckon other guys found it hard to get onto the fish as well. Went out to the 50m- 60m line and nothing. Was about 2pm so decided to hit our shallower spots again on the way home. Not a bite on my bait but my brother jigged up a 66cm pinkie then next drop he got onto a nice breaksea cod then that was it, no fish on bait, jig or sounder for the next hour. Decided to call it quits and was good fun coming home flat out with the big swells.       Anybody else out there on sunday? how did you go? thanks for reading.

hard day out from two

Tue, 2015-06-09 07:54

hard day out from two rocks.

we fished 30m out to 100m. swell was definitely at least 4m out there.

no little fish biting all day, came in with 2x black arse and 2x baldies, released 1 undersize dhuie and 2x pinkies.

fished good lumps that were holding fish but nothing biting, strange day.

the fisheries at the ramp said we were the only boat to bag out.

Two rocks

Tue, 2015-06-09 09:03

we had the same experience on Friday, travelled about 50nm for the day and struggled to find fish.

Ended up bagging out with 2 ok snapper and 2 small baldies, hardly saw a dhu and no pickers.

We were on the water for a good 8 hours.

yeh the "no reefie pickers" thing was wierd

Tue, 2015-06-09 10:17

usually your bait gets hammered and your hoping it lasts till something big comes along. We always get heaps of undersize dhuies and baldies in the past but didnt see any at all, was a hard day out but wont stop us from getting out there as much as possible before the winter storms hit

Yup same here. Sunday was the worst fish caught day I've had. How good was it when it glassed off.

On a side note hope the designer of the car park earned lots of coin got a funny feeling he won't be well liked.

Yup. Whoever designed that car park didn't take into consideration that 1 or 2 cars with boat trailers may decide to use it 1 day.

I shot out late arvo sunday

Tue, 2015-06-09 11:17

I shot out late arvo sunday for a couple of hours and had an awesome sesh in close,  80cm dhu and couple of solid pinkies (one released) and a little shark. Lost a big fish then came in. For me it was non stop action! thats how it goes I guess.

Super glassy so the boat swung with the current and made burleying easy.
