Harlequin size limit

Hi All,

Can someone advise what's the size limit for harlequin fish ? Don't seem to be able to find in the rec fishing guide. It is classed together with the demersal cods for bag limit but not much written on minimum size.

Thanks

Hey Eric, From our understanding the minimum size limit on Harlequin is 300mm.

I asked Fisheries in Perth this one.

I called in Fisheries in Perth about this one as it wasn't on there 2013 guide.

Now it is, as they printed another one with amendments!

But its still not too clear with the Estuary noted as 400mm and the Breaksea at 300mm, it doesn't clearly state the size for the other spieces in the group.

The kind chap at the fisheries said they are all 400mm in the group except the Breaksea which has a smaller limit.

I suppose you could try argue the toss but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

No size limit

I read the fisheries brochure as saying that only estuary cod and breaksea cod have a minimum size. Harlies never previously had a minimum size.

I checked in Fish Resources Management Regulations 1995 and can find no reference to a minimum size for cods other than estuary and breaksea cod.

Hi All,

Thanks for your contribution.

To clear the air, I phoned Fisheries and the lady from the other end of the phone confirms the legal size limit is 300mm.

To have an extra layer of assurance of what she says, I have requested for an email confirmation.

cheers

I would go to court on no size limit

Not that I'd shoot or keep a harlie under 300mm, but I would go to court before I would accept a fine for an undersized fish which doesn't have a size limit listed in the brochure or the legislation.

Have been personally told by a fisheries officer that if there are no size limits on the brochures or sticker then there is no minimum size. Specifically asked about rankin cod as an example and they confirmed no min size limit.

No size limit

Our Club has checked this before.  We thought it was clear....and it was.  There is no minimum size limit for this category, except those specifically listed, which is Breaksea Cod at 300mm and Estuary Cod at 400mm.

I wonder why particularly as you regularly see larger models when diving you would think you would see juvies as well but dont !
Mature offshore before moving inshore perhaps ??    The are good eating - yum
