Coming back from Bali to Perth and when the pilots were exiting/entering the cockpit, was a bit concerned to see that the Indonesian pilots had plastered newspaper all over their windows, bar one window. Should have taken a photo.

If they are at cruising
If they are at cruising altitude they rarely look outside the cockpit and are only monitoring instruments. The only time they are actually looking outside is in the take off and landing phases. They rely on Air Traffic Control ant TCAS to keep them separated and the aircraft is following gps routes on auto pilot.

So was the plane that flew
The plane that flew into Mt Erubus was on a pre-set flight plan also, I feel more comfortable if the pilot has a look out the window every now and then.
