I had a crack at making my own lures, but with a 3D printer. I ended up making the mother of all marlin teasers, which took 40 hours or so to print. Came up awesome though, and raised some bills that's for sure. Stick baits and poppers etc are easy enough to make too.
I've designed and made a few with a 3D printer. The most critical part is getting the balance right. Took me a while to get my bibbed minnows swimming right. You might need to take some weights, blu tac and a fishing rod to your closest mate's pool and try different weight positions until it swims well.
Also if you haven't come across Marling Baits on youtube, you've got a big long rabbit hole to disappear down :-)
