Horrocks Beach Ramp

Can anybody tell me what the launch is like nowdays at Horrocks Beach?

I searched and could only find older posts.

From what I read there was a concrete ramp at one stage but it was ripped out? Anybody know if it has been replaced?

Concrete for part of the way then compacted gravel and beach sand for the last 6 or so meters. So you will need a 4wd if the sand is soft or weeded or pulling out a big boat. Usually not a drama with smaller boats. If launching a Tinnie and you have a 4x4 you can launch at a little spot about 300m south of the main ramp area. Follow the road south of the main ramp area and you will see an access road to the beach and follow that down on the beach to the little wooden hut. Nice sandy gap that protected to launch small tinnies. Let you tyres down so not to chew up the beach as much.

Yeah should be fine then. If worried just let your tyres right down as if you would be beach driving. The ramp is only about 70m from the caravan parks or chalets anyway(if your staying there?)

I usually go up there in June/July and the beach is usually very compact and fine for driving on around the bay, only drama is sometimes there is a bit of weed. Not mountainous but enough to lose a bit of traction. I always have my Maxtrax handy, though i havent had to use them for launching or retieving from there yet.

If you want some fun in close get close to the inside side of the reef and belt poppers into the whitewater or gardies on gangs on the high tide. You can get some nice size Tailor there! Just watch your prop on the shallow reef :)
