How to change a impeller on a mercury outboard

-This is also very similar to many other outboards, the only difference will usually be the bolts required to drop the leg and gear lever. Changing a impeller is a very easy, basically follow this video.

Everything goes on the way that it came off so pay attention when taking off O-rings, bolts, gaskets etc. On some outboards before being able to drop the leg you need to disconnect the gear lever. This can usually be located when you take off the bolts for the leg, and drop it down a couple of inches.

One thing he doesnt do which Ive found easier is;

before removing the leg, put it in gear.

When the leg is off note the spline position on the gear shift input so you can have it in the same gear as when it came off.

That way when putting it back on you dont have to reach around like he did and try and turn the flywheel to get shaft spline to align.

Just turn the prop instead.
