I get the same mate, just click in the box and type the key word and hit enter - it worked for me but couldn't really see it happening if you get my drift.
For google, use "site:fishwrecked.com" and whatever you are searching for. For example "site:fishwrecked.com vanuatu" will return several hits with Alan James recent and excellent forum "Destination Vanuatu" top listed. or "site:fishwrecked.com ad hominems" and you'll get the jabby jab forum :)
Each web browser has it's own search function syntax but they are easy to find (and learn) if you search for them.
You can type in the search box on the left but the words don't show up, if you hit search it will show the searches, but stuffed if I know how to fix it. Otherwise the other tips above work.

I google:"whatever i am
I google:"whatever i am searching for fishwrecked" so "Jurien Bay Fishwrecked" or "EVA Deck Fishwrecked" and it generally find results I want.
Search function Works fine on my PC but not my IOS devices
