Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of how muck cash this fisherman is making dropping the drumlines? i know he gets $6000 a day or there abouts, but what about cost. fuel, bait, deckies, wear and tear on the vessel ect. How much goes in the back pocket?

Half

My guess is around half. About $1200 for fuel, 2 boxes of NZ blue mackerel for bait $90, $ 250 a day for the decky $500 for skipper and the rest in the bank for refit and servicing leaving $3000 for the lease holder

A better question

Shut it Down. A better question would have been How much is he worth? Certainly not 6g's a day that's for sure. The Govt, got duded on this.

Tender process

Fri, 2014-01-31 14:25

As I understand it the Govt went through a competitive tender process and once evaluated the contract was awarded. This would indicate the Govt is paying the market price. No one has been duded here, although the Lib haters amongst us will always suggest otherwise.

Thanks carnavonite, simple answer to a simple question,

Kamo king, some people might be interested. if your not stay of the thread, simple!

cransy1, I couldn't care less what you earn, it was just a question and not personal one, i dont want a copy of his tax return.

Howard geoge, i think he'll earn his money, just putting up with the grief he'll no doubt cop has to be worth something.

Works hard in a risky business

Fri, 2014-01-31 16:09

Gross 6k a day, tax man wants his cut, boat repayments, boat insurance, workers comp insurance, public liability insurance, superannuation for employees, advertising costs, maintenance costs, mooring costs, how much for a decent shark hook and float these days? Radio licences, training costs for crew tickets, navigation gear upkeep, safety gear upkeep, an accountant to keep the books, wages for employees, who looks after the phones?

How many hours spent on sorting out the red tape too win a government tender?

The contract ends in April so then he needs to find something to do with an expensive boat,

What happens when the weathers to bad or the Decky doesn't show? what happens if he gets crook (income protection insurance?)

Then we have people making death threats and on top of all that he's wrangling with sharks all day with the media hanging off him filming his every move. let's not forget trying to shoot a shark in a rolling sea with a rifle in one hand while holding on with the other! More than likely the bloke like a lot of us has got a family to feed and educate as well and if he's lucky spend a bit of time with the kids in between tendering and maintaining a boat while he keeps a crew on the water. I didn't answer the question how much but maybe there's some context for consideration when your asking the question.

Cheers G

 Probably around the same

Probably around the same amount he could make on a good days fishing for  12 hours . And this guy is 12 hours every day for 3 months straight ..that makes a 4 and 1 roster look pretty good add in a rdo he doesn't get or pip or holiday pay means he's probably close to what some 4 and 1 FIFO gets
