How surprising , Barnett goverment has backed of on raiding the funds that are raised by our rec fish license's ,they must have realized that the 750000 licensed rec fishers have a vote

'Quote of the year!
haha loved this quote from Larry Pickering, a journo wag if every there was one, , still retaining his sense of humour!
WA Premier, Colin Barnett, made the same mistake as the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd Government; he believed the mining bubble would never burst and spent accordingly.
A savage S&P credit write-down was due to a ballooning $18 billion in debt (heading for $26 billion) and Mr Barnett believes Abbott will now have to revisit the GST.
Sorry Colin, there is more chance of me turning poofter and marrying a bloke in Canberra this weekend, with my golfing mates as bridesmaids.

hahaha
so funny I was at a Rio supervisor's meeting about 10 years ago , we were getting the big future lecture about how we were going forward with China , I happened to say "so what happens when they don't want our Iron ore " the GM who shall remain nameless said "it wont happen peter you have to believe " I thought I was at am Amway convention . I spent 45 years in the iron ore industry and got very cynical when I saw the graduate engineers coming through the ranks all enthusiastic willing to take on big projects , and then years later those same blokes were siting behind desks shuffling paper with bugger all to do because every major job was farmed out overseas engineering companys

Is no one else pissed off at
Is no one else pissed off at the fact that nowhere near 100% of licence fee revenue is going towards recreational fishing research / programs / boat ramp upgrades / artificial reefs etc. ?!?!

To the max
Any thinking fisherman/woman would be quite pissed off by the way the licence money is divided up. With the way this bunch of fools has put this state in the red by such a huge amount and are now running around trying to put a tax on everything that you touch or think about. It is enough to give you night sweats.
The latest buzz going around down my neck of the woods is they are thinking of bringing in a yearly charge for your RFL.
You know the saying, if you miss out on the merry go round get it on the swing.

Correction
Yeah sorry I got the licences mixed up, it's the rbl recreational boat licence.
When you get stopped by fisheries or dept of transport or whatever name they use now producing all the pieces of plastic you are required to have on your person to go fishing takes longer to show that the safety gear etc.

I think (and suggest i will
I think (and suggest i will get flamed for this) the government is doing a reasonable job
its easy to be critical in hindsight, and easier to paste someone for making mistakes - you only have to look to the rest of the world to see how f ked up things are globally- having travelled a bit i can tell you i dont think there is a better managed economy in the world (nor a better place to live)
And before you say ahhh what about Denmark - yeah sure there economy is going great, but it hasnt always been and if you have been there in winter you wouldnt give a rats about the state of the economy!
Government will always be able to do better, and the least squeaky wheel will always have its oil pilfered - if you dont like it - get squeaky!

Recfishwest
As promised, here's an update on the issue we brought you on Monday regarding money missing from your fishing fund.
The news is positive. The community spoke and the government listened.
Within 24 hours Fisheries Minister Ken Baston confirmed his government's commitment to dedicate 25% of your fishing licence fees to the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund (RFIF), effectively reversing any cuts to the people's fund.
Recfishwest is confident the government remains a strong supporter of recreational fishing and acknowledges they have a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes for fishing. We were pleased to also see support from WA Labor and the Shooters and Fishers Party.
We are disappointed it got this far, as through the RFIF your fishing fees are making great things happen.
Cutting funding to sustainability, conservation and enhancement projects that have been paid for by fishing families was never the right thing to do.
Recfishwest will continually work to ensure any cuts applied elsewhere within the Department of Fisheries do not affect the services most important to you, the community and sustainable fishing in WA.
We would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support including the many passionate recreational fishers who offered to take action.
The best way to prevent future governments attempting any raid on your fund is to ensure a strong voice and here's how you can help:
If you believe in sustainable, accessible, enjoyable and safe fishing for you, your friends and your family then FORWARD this to someone else who shares your values and encourage them to connect with WA's fishing community by joining a cast of thousands!
