I did something stupid

After coming back from a recent fishing trip i was pushed for time as we were heading out for dinner. So what did i do with my two pinkies - I FROZE THEM WHOLE - NOT EVEN GUTTED

Is this gonna cause a problem when i pull them out to eat them next weekend?

if they were frozen quick i dont think it would effect the snapper too much, but obviously there is gonna be abit stronger flavoured then usual, im sure spices can hide it.

If you're in a hurry...

next time just leave them whole, on ice. Don't have to worry about fileting them until the next day, and firms up the flesh, making it easier to filet.

Best way to firm flesh is leave on ice over night & fillet the next day. Added benefit of not having to fillet fish after a long day out!!!

after being on ice as the flesh has set nice and firm and the knife just melts through it.

i'll keep fish on lots of ice for 2 days after being gutted no probs before being filleted providing the species has a firm flesh to begin with, such as cods, reds and baldys.

but having said that, they stay in the window of fish shops for some time + time on the boat then transport from up north back to perth. that's ALOT longer than 2 days......
