Fair few people on site got a winch of Ian. He has asked me to put post up. Everyone happy, anything he can do better than what he has done. Nothing better than feed back . Cheers.

Awesome Winches
Hi Johnny
Ian makes a great winch. Yes it sounds expensive at first but I can share that after a badly broken (compound fracture) thumb and associated surgery, plus a future of arthiritis and limited thumb movement as a result of the winch handle recoil, that the money he is asking is well worth it.
Ian follows up on any feedback and/or fixes as well.
For those that haven't seen it in action I have uploaded a phone video I got offf Ian to post up on Youtube.
Here is the youtube Video link for those who are inetrested. www.youtube.com/watch
Ian's winch does a great job of winching up my 5m plate ally centre console, and I have now tested it in a beach lauch situation; granted not yet a full dry winch onto the trailer, but the boat was in about 6" of water, and the winch performed exactly as intended.
When the weather fines up I'll put one up myself via my GoPro.
It's a great product and the pulley guards he makes for them is a valuable additional safety feature.
He also fits and supplies good quality and heavy duty cabling and anderson fittings
Happy dayz

That's the small winch for 5.5 m boat. Trying to see if it blew up on big heavey boat. Hence why it was slow, all good cheers

Gunna say the same thing
My S5000 Superwinch rips my 7.6m boat up twice as quick as that, and even that is not as quick as I’ve seen

I got the smaller winch off
I got the smaller winch off Ian a few months back and wrappd with it, skull dragged my 5.8 back on the trailer in quicktime at Learmonth last school holidays and heaps of grunt.
In normal launching circumstances has my boat on the trailer in about 10 seconds and the deckies love it.
Good solid set up and a top bloke who follows up with a phone call or two to see how its all going, hard to get that service these days
Cheers PCracker

Back from a squid session
Back from a squid session this morning- got to say the boat winch is brilliant. Retrieved boat quickly and easy. The string line to the toggle switch is a great addition, when you are a standing at the back of the trailer.
Wish I could do a video of it in use(but I'm a "old fart"-so don't know how to post video).
Best thing ever, seen as I'm going out at least twice a week.
Thanks again Ian.

finally got some free time
finally got some free time this morning and dropped our pots in , put the new winch to the test for first time …….
pulled the boat up and on tight as a drum in 20 seconds !!!...….hardly had time to think about it really and she was on …… as we beach launch , it made it very sweet indeed to have it on easily , and it never felt like it was really working hard at all to pull her on
big thanks to ian ……
highly reccommend one if your thinking about it

A word of caution.....
If you use any of the 'starter motor' based winches BE DAMNED CAREFUL you dont overwind the boat up against the winch post. A friend did with his and had to cut the winch cable as the ratchet could not be released to unwind the drum.
THese style are brilliant for beach retreival as they are so quick, and without power are just a standard manual winch so there is virtually nothing to go wrong.
I have made around 8 here in Adelaide based on Jarrett winches and Ford reduction-gear starters and all perform well. Just looking at the photos, I'm confident Ian's winches will suit anybody.
Just a warning, unless you are very good with tools dont try to make your own. THe fitting of the flex-plate/flywheel to the winch needs to be very accurate or the winch will slip under load.

Ians Winches
Ha Ha sounds like a case of the Nut behind the Wheel or the Dickhead pushing the Button Too wind it up to tight, and have too cut it LOL,
And Why you would use a flex plate sounds like a head fuck straight away
I have been using one of Ians Winches for getting on 10 Years and never had a problem,
I pull up a 3 ton US Wellcraft on to Carpet Skids easy as, in fact even my wife has done it a few Times
I guess theres a lot of Guys on here that use them or Know Ian and his Quality of Work is Second Too None
Maybe give him a call, Ians Winches 0419 969 239

Ian’s winch
i’m From South Aus and do a lot of fishing launching off shallow beaches using an old Fordson tractor.
I recently bought a new Cruisecraft 635 and needed a fast winch to drag the boat onto the trailer asap before getting stuck.
i previously had a Powerwinch 912 which was slow and ceased after only a few years
luckily I found this site and gave Ian a call. I was able to pick up the winch in Perth whilst over for work.
the winch has been great - and Ian’s after sales service checking up has been second to none .
Highly recommended.

Ian’s winches
Got one of Ian’s winches last week. Awesome engineering and super solid. Needed some modifications to my winch post which was no problem for Ian.
Went down the local ramp after he fitted it for a test run. Super happy with his work and very genuine. Can’t wait to get back up to Lancelin and give it a real workout.
I would rather be fishing

Ian's Winches
I've got an older style winch that required attention, my winch is based on a similar concept to Ians but definatley not anywhere near as good as his winch system. Anyway after a call to Ian he checked out the my winch and repaired it on a Saturday morning with the replacement of a post inside starter. Apart from Ian being a top bloke and that he's a wizard on winches.
When ever mine totally stuffs up I'll be buying one of his.
Thanks Ian, top stuff.

Ian read post
And said cheers no problem at all. He is glad you where happy , hence why a good mate, helps anyone out. Nothing a problem. He is also unreal at glass work. Done 90 percent of my deck and hull for me. Won’t find better in my books.

3 years on and our winch from
3 years on and our winch from ian is still working like a champion
gets used at least once a week with a beach launch and it has made a huge difference to our ability to load the boat quickly and smoothly ..
great gear that we have really tested and it has stood up every time
we made up a heavy duty cover for it , sort of looks like a kluh klux klan hat , that slides over the winch to keep sun / weather etc off while not being used

Brilliant winches
Yep, got one of Ian's winches last year and it's brilliant!
Boat weighs around 2.3 tonnes and it pulls it onto the trailer with effortless ease.
