heading in a northerly direction keep going north even after you are well clear of the river mouth dont cut the corner to the left cause thats where the breakers come through you will see them rolling in then of course when coming home approach on a southerly course . Its a good idea to register at the sea rescue office its right there next to the boat ramp (was last year anyway). If you look at the "Murchison boat hire" web site theres lots of fishing info there regarding whats biting at different months of the year I found that helpful. Also the guys in the tackle shop are good for local tips/advice have a great trip

i wish lyou could post links here from Ipad.

search google for Kalbarri Historic Climate Observations, and there is a bom site second down. It shows that the vast majority is west to south, around 90% of the time, and between 20 and 40kmh for most of that.

River crossing

Wed, 2014-08-27 17:49

Kalbarri river crossing i did a few years back and the route i took.

If you plot your course and keep to it is a good idea, as visually positioning yourself could put  closer to the rocks/reef than you may expect.

It's a little daunting the first time, But certainly a fun ride. (definitley do it with a PFD on just encase the sh*t hits the fan)

Need to keep the power on a bit to make sure you push through the waves.

Here's a picture looking North,as this boat comes back into the Rivermouth.

I was up there for a week, and went out several times. Once I waited and followed one of the cray boats back into the Rivermouth,it smoothed the water out beautifully.

Always worth taking the boat, especially when it looks like that. The weather gods may smile for you. Sandpatch, Baldface, troll there burley hard on the pick, closer in than what you think. If the wind blows hard stand with a beer and admire your fine looking rig.

From my point of view

Sat, 2014-08-30 13:53

I found it easier going out than when coming back in. I was looking for channel markers but couldn't see any over the waves and breakers nor could I see all the waves breaking or where the channel was. It was more like coming in on a wing and a prayer. Once I got thru the breakers which wasn't too bad and turned to the starboard it was easy enough as I could then see the channel markers. But definitly a place to be wearing a lifejacket.

send me a pm whn yr coming up mate n ill give ys hand with it. Easy run thru mouth! 10 seconds of fun!

Usually ok that time of year for swell but the sand does build up a bit n narrow the channel up a bit!

DPI are putting in more channel markers soon to make it a more defined and a bit easier to navigate!

Def not a place you want to take a shortcut unlessits dead flat!I
