Kalbarri fishing poor

Just a warning to anyone coming to Kalbarri for Easter and expecting great fishing. Unless things change, don't expect very much. Have been here 3 days, fished baits, lures and poppers every morning and arvo. Fished red Bluff, blue holes,'the creek", and the river mouth. Nothing!!! Plenty of very small bream & dart around for kids though.

spoke to a bloke this morning that comes here for a week, two weeks before Easter for the last 30 years, got here last Sunday, and got his 1st fish this morning ( saturday). Spoke to another long time regular, and is having worst trip ever. heard the boaiets haven't been doing much better.

Very dissappointing given the reputation of the place. Will kepp trying a couple more days, as i know it can all change with the weather, but not optimistic at present.

It can be like that....

Sat, 2012-03-31 09:06

Our last trip we arrived Monday to hear how every man and his dog cashed in on the fish over the weekend. I fished for 3 days and NOTHING. Chances are the day after we left the fish would be back on the bite.. That's fishing folks. Don't blame global warming.......

Live baits at the jetty at

Sat, 2012-03-31 10:15

Live baits at the jetty at night should provide some entertainment with a few coldies, dont forget the crab nets. Even the small species on light gear can produce some suprises, I seen a kid pull up a bat fish one night, gave him hell on a kmart rod.

Kalbarri

Sat, 2012-03-31 13:00

Had the same experience over crissy. The place was packed and over the whole week i think i seen 2 fish landed by the people around us. Did an all nighter a frustrations as well and all night baits were as perfect as they were when we put em in. Arrived with very high expectations and left pretty shocked. Would go back in a heart beat but. Gotta be in it to win it.

You just have to know where

Sat, 2012-03-31 14:58

You just have to know where to go. I know guys up there that can pull in pinkies off the rocks all year round. If you have a boat up there you can usually find fish if you look hard enough. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and we found spots in the shallows up North holding Pinkies to 7kg every drift. They are there its just there not always within reach of land base fishoes unfortunatly.

knowlege

Sat, 2012-03-31 15:19

its all about knowledge as tapout said! dont right the place off cos you didnt get anything. funny cos my mate that lives there was out trolling and cant get away fm the macks n tuna! theyve been killing it on the mullas and i def know that pinks are being caught off the cliffs! so there are fish there mate i know that for a fact! you have to know where to go and when to go up there! im back up there on tuesday and ill be onto fish that same arvo i get there! it took me ages to find the local haunts of fish there and there are spots that you can pull out pinks off the rocks everyday if you know where to go! that is why i love the place you have to know more than just how to throw a line in the water to catch fish hehe love it!

Yeah there was a report from Jeffree a couple days ago on here and they cleaned up in the boat by the look of it. We have always been able to get onto good fish up there but you gotta go looking for them you cant just expect them to come to you.

Would love to move to kalbarri. Awsome fishing and pig chasing.

Thanks for the replys fellas.

Sat, 2012-03-31 22:05

Thanks for the replys fellas. Must admit it's a bit humorous that when you ask for where to fish , no-one replys, but when you say how bad things are, heaps of replies about how good areas are.  Not bagging anyone, as i know how secret spots can be and how they can be raped, but you gotta admit it is funny....

Anyway, still haven't got anything decent, but I'm getting warmer. Told the wife this morning that I felt like I was gonna catch a fish today.....well.............I did ....sort of. Lady beside me , on a 6 foot spin rod with 5-7 Kg line, skull dragged a Mulloway straight over the top of about 5 metres of rocks before it jammed up and the line snapped. I jumped in and grabbed it before it got back out....... FRIGGIN AMAZING !!! Didn't measure, but I would say 900mm pretty comfortably. First one I've seen, let alone held. Beautiful fish. I gather they are a bit touchy to release, as it took some reviving before it swan off.

Tomorrow will be MY DAY !!!!

Hahaha yer sorry but I keep

Sun, 2012-04-01 10:05

Hahaha yer sorry but I keep my spots up there secret too. Unless I take you fishing and I will show you. Mullas can be very hard to release. Any big ones with more than about a 20 min fight will have a heart attack and be dead before you bring them in.

Was going to give you some

Sun, 2012-04-01 11:21

Was going to give you some pointers by pm, but just had a look at the forecast for up there and you wouldnt want to fish those spots with a 3-5m swell. You would be dead in minuites. I sugest you get the surfboard out. :)

Sun, 2012-04-01 12:20

No probs. I wreckon I'd have more chance of dying on a surfboard than a cliff face anyway.

Thanks anyway.

Thanks VERY much for the info

Sun, 2012-04-01 22:09

Thanks VERY much for the info tangles. I just got in ( 9pm) and saw your post. I have been at chinas this evening again ,using mullet strips ( scaled) but not throwing at the marker , into the chanel, but more on the near , sth , side of it.( I know where you mean, been throwing poppers and slices at it all week morning and evening, no takers. Water out the mouth was nice and foamy, but no takers. Was gonna go back after reading your report, but tides on way out again now. No high tide til 7.30PM tomorrow, so will try the markers again with some mullet again then. Will also have a last chance tomorrow night. Fingers crossed. Hard to get used to having only 2 tides /day sometimes.
