Karratha Blue Crabs / Squid

Hey Karratha guys. A bit of info - got 24 legal blue mannas in Nickol Bay. Also heard that a few squid have been caught.
Anyone seen squid schools yet?

Heard about the crabs a few weeks ago, not sure on the squid though, woulda thought its still a bit warm thou.

squid can be confirmed, mate saw a school out near Angel last weekend, suprised considering the water temp that the crabs and squid are appearing. looks like i know what i'm doing over easter weekend then

I got 21 blues before it blew up a couple of weekends ago, weather is not looking good for Easter which is a real shame.

The big ones have moved in,
The big ones have moved in, went out on Saturday (A bit ruff) and got 27 big bucks (only threw one back and need to double check the size on one other), all really full and tasted unreal, heaps better than the ones I got a few weeks ago. One or two every net (When the sharks didn't get the bait forst). Used Fish heads in half and Lamb in the other half. Didn't make any difference to the catch rate but the fish got smashed by sharkes (Lost 2 nets and bent another 2) while the lamb wasn't touched by the sharks.

bag limit in Perth is 20 per boat

Not in Perth, but
in West Coast bioregion. But the limit everywhere else is 20per person max, or 40per boat with more than 1 other fisher, ie one cant go on a boat and catch 21 alone. In the west coast bioregion this is halved to 10 and 20.

fish full of squid
We had a good day over the weekend some good snapper and a couple of trout. All were full of squid and made a bloody mess.

yeah squid bash with the mrs
yeah squid bash with the mrs went well, fished to the west and got 15 with hood sizes around the 12-15cm range with one bigger around the 22cm mark, tried a few spots on sunday that usually produce for me to the north and only got 1 tiny one. all have been caught on an outgoing tide so i'm now just waiting for the right weekend to come and i'll dedicate a day to them. Also got 10 big male swimmers on the outgoing too in Nickol bay from 7 pots and 4 pulls, chicken frames working the best.

limits on crabs
the crab bag limit used to be 24 a person to a max of 48 per boat , I though the limit was changed a few years ago to 10 per person and 20 a boat max state wide I left K town on Anzac day last year and had been limiting my self to those limits was I wrong

makes me wonder what people
makes me wonder what people do with so many crabs, i take 10 and thats 2 meals. do you guys clean all the meat out and freeze it with the extra crabs?
14 squid over the low yesterday out at Nelson rocks in 3 hours stuff all wind so the drift speed was dead slow and with 5 kids onboard it was hard work. all good size too, biggest one had a 34cm tube.

what you do is give them away to frends but i dont take them in those numbers these days , me and my life long mate used to take a carton of emu export beers with us crabbing of the back beach karratha we used to come in when the beers had run out or we had our crab limit yes i know bad thing to do but thats how it was back in the day

got 6 at Rosemary on saturday in that shit weather, not monsters but heard there was a massive school in Marnie Bay last week just schooling on the surface, plenty of them out there it seems.
here's one for you, went walking for some crays last weekend on Enderby, no crays all had eggs but we managed to find 6 blue swimmers in ankle deep water, cooked up rather nicely too!

Didn't try for crabs but saw
Didn't try for crabs but saw a hooter of a squid in watering cove. Had no jig unfortunately and the cagey bugger stayed far enough away so I couldn't jump him with a net! Never again will I leave home to go fishing without a squid jig on board!

right that's it i'm going crabbing this week! i know of a sailfish caught yesterday at the ships too. might even have a bash for squid if the weather holds up but i might wait until March as they are shifty buggers and really shy so early in the season, i know i saw them off NW reef last year in march.

i bet they are the big buggers that have shells growing on them they are that big good on you but , loosing many drop nets to the tiger sharks ??? in the bay
muddys should be coming on about now up fields and airport creek should be setting some liveys (bait) behind the rock bar in nickol river for some threadys or barra mate i miss home big time i cant catch a fish down here in the metro

Worst barra season I have
Worst barra season I have seen. Had a few donut days. The crabs are not full on yet, but can get 20 or so once you pick through the little fellas.
Seen the asian ladies at the boat ramp doing well on prawns, one day I will learn to throw a net properly

they are wifeys mates and yess they can throw a throw net , they could give lessons on how to throw 1 , they are all thai girls just ask them to show you how to do it they will be happy to teach you and yes from what i have heard they are cleaning up on the prawns (stricktly to there limits ) of the back beach in k town and they all speak good engish most have been in k town longer than you have been
