Karratha squidding
Submitted by Brynner on Sat, 2012-05-19 13:49
Was thinking of going squidding this week out from Dampier. Just wondering if there have been any reports of big numbers hanging around and if the sizes have been reasonable for this time of year?

Not as good as it can get yet
Tried at a couple a almost no miss spots for some bait and a meal 2 weeks back. Not a squiddly in sight.
Friday went for an arvo-night fish and had a ball with bruiser Blue-lined snapper by the truckload. Rarely bag out but a mate wanted some fish so that was done fairly quick, and then C&R. No sharks --- Yeh.
There was a school of squid in the lights, but didnt take any offerings of jigs, and after 5 changes I thought bugger this and kept fishing. But from memory they started to come in about now, so Id say I am going to try the same spots on the way to a fish to see what happens.

Likewise, had a couple of stabs at them at spots that we normally do very well at and have missed out altogether. Must come good soon surely.

Day time try Withnell Bay
Day time try Withnell Bay night time head to the floating jetty at the boat club. There's not too many places with weed banks around. Be mobile and try along the rocks all around Dampier. I've never had much luck land based

Thanks guys
Haven't gone out and targeted them yet this winter. Was curious if anyone has had any success lately, had a good year last season. Will look at going out within the next couple of weeks :)

i've got big ones and small
i've got big ones and small ones but the avergae is that beautiful size where the tube would be 15cm so not too thick but i've got a few monsters pushing the 1kg mark, won't be long untill they fire good and proper, with this big easterly push coming it's gonna drop that temp down in the water a few degrees and make them active
