KFWA Social Bream Comp Round 1 : Sunday 15th Febuary

Sunday 15th febuary is Round 1 of the Kayak Fishing Western Australia Bream Social Competition!!

This will be a early start, launching at Matilda Bay on the Swan River. We will be running this comp in conjunction with the "West Australian Bream Classic Round 1 Comp" so we will be launching with all the Bream Boat guys, and presenting prizes about the same time too. Big thanx to Craig at WABC for letting us use there infrastructure on the day, and making us feel welcome.

Grant at Sailpower marine at this stage will be putting up some prizes, and hopefully i can get another sponsor or two interested.

The competition at this stage will probably be a length of fish based comp, with people taking a clear picture of there fish on a measuring device or brag mat that leaves no conjecture about the fishes length. People who have live wells are also welcome to bring live fish back for a measure also. This is to accomodate those who do not have a livewell at this stage, and gives people time to get one organised before the next comp.

Remember this is a lure only competition, and some rules do apply to numbers of rods, and stuff!!

Please support this if you can guys. The WA Bream Classic guys are very keen on having us do some competition fishing with the boaties, and furthering the strength on the local competition!

As it develops, we will get better prizes, and hopefully larger fields and more sponsors onboard. This first round is more to test the water and see who's keen.

Sorry for the short notice, but to run with the Boat guys is too good an oppurtunity to miss, for both us and them!

Post your interest below!

Is the competition restricted to a particular area?

Not really mate, it's more where you can get to and back within the allotted time. Tho barrack street jetty is out of bounds, and also the waterski areas.

These comps are taking off over east at the moment with the ABT running a 5 Round Kayak Bream Comp at the moment, i am actually heading over to the Sunshine Coast for Round 2 on the 22nd Febuary!

If this comp goes okay, we will look to bring in more regular rounds, see where it goes.

Sorry Brett One more question

Thu, 2009-02-05 08:10

When you say as long as you are back in the allotted time - does that mean that you have to paddle there and back in an alloted time - or can you drive your kayak to a spot, fish and then drive it back?

No mate, we all launch

Thu, 2009-02-05 09:42

from a set spot, and must return there at the end of the comp. In this case, it's Matilda Bay. As we are working with the WABC guys, it's probably not an ideal location, but we need to start somewhere!

Could you paddle to somewhere, put your yak on a car

Thu, 2009-02-05 10:52

drive to a good spot, fish, then drive your yak back to somewhere near Matilda Bay and then paddle to the weigh in site? This is all leading somewhere Brett, so bare with me.

No mate,

Thu, 2009-02-05 11:13

You launch together, go to a spot, fish it, return, as soon as you land back at the launch site, you cant go back out.

Its bsically exactly the same rules as all ABT events, whether yak or boat.

Its also a safety issue, so you know roughly where everyone is, and if they arent back at the launch at the end, when to go looking.

As said, good luck with the concept Brett and also against those XXXX drinkers.

Sat, 2009-02-07 16:51

Well the boys got nil on the Bream today at Matilda bay while Brett had a field day up stream once again,,its not a real good spot for Bream and a poor site to begin a bream competion generally (for kayaks),,,,, the Skeeter boats could launch on the moon and still get back with the big outboards in time for theweigh in,,,seems like folks do great with using mussels around the area but lures are harder going.

We now have to choose starting and weighing in with the ABT guys or choose a more suitable venue for a kayak Bream tournament upstream.

BTW> Soft plastics lasted 3 nano seconds on the hordes of blowies Cool

Was an awesome day! Had 14 kayakers turn out for the comp, so big thanks to you guys for making the effort! We wouldn't be able to do these comps without the support of the competitors, so again, big thanks!

Also Thanx to Grant at Sailpower for putting up some vouchers as prizes, and presenting them in person after the event.

The winners were, in no particular order, Paul (Yakyakker) for what looked to be the biggest bream, and for putting up with us holding a measuring stick down near his manhood... Must have looked suss from the carpark...

Dale, caught the most good sized Bream, well done mate, and a new face too!

Karl, for forgetting about Bream altogether and catching some great Flathead, including one that must have been over 50cm, awesome stuff mate.

Honorable mention goes to Scotty Coghlan for catching a bunch of great bream, but also boo hiss for actually pinching the organisers kayak on the day, he was deservedly disqualified!!  :D  Well done Scotty!!!

Whilst on the topic of theft, unlucky stuff to Glenn Bransby who had his car broken into during the comp, the little pricks made off with his best screwdriver, and a few pairs of his prescription sunnies.. And more theft, Shorty reported his big bream were stolen out of his livewell whilst he popped into the casino for a quick punt, geez theres some lowlifes out there...

Again, big thanx to all for coming, and hopefully this will be the start of more comps of this type to come.

The assembled mass of keen Bream assasins!

The flotilla engages the enemy! Go get em boys!

Big Thanks to:

Karl, Mark, Paul(Yakyakker), Shorty, Mattyoga, Dale, Glen (Jarlaxle), Scott Coghlan, Stu, Jutto, Josh (GoFishWA), Juddy, Glenn B and John.
Also cheers to Bob (Abner) for popping down, also helping out Stu with his rudder! And huge thanks to Grant at Sailpower Marine for the prizes.
