Kimberley Bucket List Trip

 Hi all,

My name is Martyn and I'm from Melbourne Vic. I am planning a trip to the Kimberleys and wanted to get an idea of what I can expect to catch etc.

I'm going to be staying at Berkeley River Lodge and was wondering if any of you have stayed there, What the boats and guides are like etc.?

I want to try to catch Barra but I want to look at chasing all other species I can while I'm there. I hope to be able to target other species on my bucket list like Coral Trout, Spanish Mackerell, GT's and Jewfish etc.

Any info or advice you can gie me would be really appreciated.

Due to lock-down in Victoria this trip has been postponed to end of March 2022 so there is plenty of time for me to research. I know the weather might be better later in the year but the cost goes up too much.

Thanks all and hope to hear from some of you soon.

I've fished the Berkeley River on my own vessel, haven't stayed at the Lodge though.

End of March you may time it well for the runoff at the rockbar at the top end of the river for Barra, depends on the strength of the wet season.

Good fingermark, queenfish out around the islands at the mouth of the Berkeley.

Jacks are available in the river as well.

Pretty sure the guides will be switched on to it all.

 Hi Big John,

Thanks for your reply. Are there coral trout around there or is it too far west? I've been wanting to take this trip for a very long time and want to tick as many fish off my bucket list that I can.

Heading off in a couple of weeks, if I can't travel overseas then I will spend my money in the west. Have travelled the Kimberley on Odyssey (worth the money and the cheapest of the luxury Kimberley cruises with very small groups maxing out at 20 and they also do trips to the Shoals). Will give you some feedback when we are back.

Dont say the KimberlyS to the locals, there is only one, ie The Kimberly.

Relatives up there get really shitty with people who make this mistake.

Signs get painted over up there etc.
