King Threadfin - Mary River NT

 Hi All,

This is a video of a trip to the mouth of the Mary River - Northern Territory. We launched at Shady Camp, just after dawn and motored down stream. We were targeting Barramundi but this day the Threadfin were out and about. The fish we caught were of a similar size and in the high teens, weight wise.

Enjoy! :-)

It was awesome and the conditions are consistently great. I'm from SA originally but am enjoying it up here.

 Cracking Threadies

Is there a certain time of year to fish that river?

Time of Year fo NT Threadies

We were chasing 'run-off' Barra but we had a really poor wet so there wasn't much run-off! This trip was the last weekend in March so that might be an indication of the best time of year but I'm not certain.

Thanks for letting us share your day on the water

Looks like you were having a great day on the river, good to see you using good lifting practice with the fish supporting its body like that gives the fish a good chance of surviving if you are catching and releasing.

I've got to say there seemed to be a massive amount of boats on the river compared to when I last fished that neck of the woods, was there a competition on or something.

There's a couple of reasons that there were lots of boats. As Sea-kem says - good tides. To launch at Shady you need to have the right water depth. One of my other videos shows how much it drains out at the Shady ramp! The other thing it the 'Mother Ships' there. There ws a 35 foot cat sitting up stream from the mouth (we passed it in the video) and you can hire a room on there like you can a motel.
