I went there on my way around oz a couple of years back. Didn't land any Barra but make sure you take a couple of opera house traps for a nice feed of Redclaw! we were getting about a dozen out of two traps each night...as good as marron.
Have a chat to the local pharmacist. He runs a Barra tackle store inside his chemist and holds a heap of Barra world records. Check out the photos in his store- monsters! I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction.
Cheers for the advise fellas.Bunny ive seen photos you've put up before fishing from the Kayak bloody huuuge ell done , and yep on the Atherton Tablelands. Any additional advise would be much appreciated. Cheers again.
We've fished there a lot in the past, pulled some decent Barra from it too. Someone has already mentioned the red claws, they're a good feed. Been getting into a couple of Barra here at Mambi Island here on the Ord at present, Plenty of bloody crocks too.
Hi Ron, sorry for the late reply. Been out of range for a bit, and just have one bar phone strength here at Robin Falls with the amp turned on and through the outside antenna. We found that almost anything worked for red claws, from dog food to boiled potatoes. We fished mainly up the top end of the lake, had a dinghy so we were able to get away from the shore were everyone had their nets.
When we went for red claw we used to just put puts in amongst the dead trees on Western side where the Danbulla South forrest is (Launch from the Tinnaroo drv boat ramp and basically just head directly north until you see all the dead trees in the water). Been many many years since I have been back so things might have changed.
We used to use Beef heart but cant say we tried any other bait so not sure what would work best.

Give a man to fish and he'll eat for a day, Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in his boat and drink all day...

Redclaw
Hey mate,
I grew up at Tinnaroo.
When we went for red claw we used to just put puts in amongst the dead trees on Western side where the Danbulla South forrest is (Launch from the Tinnaroo drv boat ramp and basically just head directly north until you see all the dead trees in the water).
