Little Perth Jigging Report
Submitted by Lucky Tim on Tue, 2010-10-19 21:13
Well I was a few days late for Sundays traffic jam out at the barges but we did have the place pratically to ourselves. Sam, Jamie and I took the light jigging gear for a run and found the amberjack as thick as Sunday with hook ups every drift, including a three way to finish the session off. The size was typical but still great fun. We also picked up a double of SBT's on the way home so stay tuned for Jamie's next master chef installment.
And finally, Jamie stoked with someone else foul hooking a fish for a change!

Great to christen the new boat and a hot session on the AJs.
The new PE2 jigger is a lot of fun on those fish too, I just wonder how hard I can push it!
I just finished cleaning the tuna and an AJ, you guys are gonna have to wait for that next installment!

that was today, seabreeze
that was today, seabreeze had the wind at Rotto listed as a 20kt Northerly while we were out there. Was bearable but made for a pretty fast drift.

I was happy with the boat
I was happy with the boat considering the conditions. Alfred met us back at the ramp and took some photos so I'll chuck a few up soon. Good to christen it with some nice jigging and good company.

I thought the new tub did
I thought the new tub did really well and in that respect, it was probably a plus the conditions weren't as good as Sunday/Monday, we can find out what WOT looks like some other time.
As with all new boats, and even some old ones, there is a little fine-tuning to be done. It cleared water really well, even a little that whet up and over didn't land on me down the back. Some of that nifty foam for the bottom edge of the clears will stop water coming up the windscreen, a scrubbing brush onboard, perhaps even a knife too!

yeah picked it up Monday and
yeah picked it up Monday and maiden voyage yesterday. It'd make a great tub for down your way. I'd tow it down your way but the closure sort of defeats the purpose. Next time you're up let me know and I'll get you out for a jig.

Despite the weatherman's
Despite the weatherman's disgraceful call on the wind, i felt comfortable all day in the new girl.
18(ish) knots out and back, minimal slapping, comfortable to jig out of etc.
Ahhh how i want a fibro..
Thanks for a good day out Tim
Cheers,
Sam

Well done guys, looks like a fun day out.
Jamie, any chance of swapping jobs, it seems as though you are always fishing
Tim, what were your thoughts on the new sounder and was it the first time you've used it?

yeah it was the first time
yeah it was the first time with the sounder Steve. It appeared to be going alright at the start showing the fish and structure well, but as the day wore on the picture and reading got worse. To get the bottom definition you needed to crank the gain up past where you would normally run it, clouding out the water column, then when you cleared the water column, the bottom displayed irratically. I was hoping to get back and find the transducer kicked up (didn't over tighten it as I wanted to make adjustments at sea) but it was in the normal position. Having a look around in 30m on the way home seemed ok but the deeper stuff 105m is concerning.
I need to do some more looking into it but this weather is too crap.

The other boat
Hi, we were the Quintrex (the only other boat out there). The trip out was atrocious, bloody www.seabreaze, rarely gets it right. My deckie spewed his guts up 5 times.
We couldn't get anything to take our jigs until I tried a cheapy from Bali and it got smashed every drop.
We ended up with 15 Ambers and 1 Sambo, largest fish was only 23lb.
There was nothing on the other barges.

I'm sore
Yeh me and the deckie are feeling worse for wear. My whole body hurts. Thought my neck was going to snap on the way out. It was so bad that we were drenched half way to Garden Island and figured seeing we were already soaked, what the heck and kept going. I need a bigger boat!
