Sun, 2021-01-31 18:25

7 steps from bed to work for me.

What I don't understand is how a bloke working in hotel quarantine can feel unwell and still go out and about, and take three days after seeing his GP before getting a COVID test and quarantining.

Hopefully this lapse in protocol and, let's face it, the intelligence that comes with low base wage, doesn't have long term consequences.

Pretty simple really in times like a pandemic do just that job or don't do it at all. Didn't a few of the eastern states governments ban staff at aged care homes from working at more than one when the shit hit the fan over there? Make the rules and make sure they are adhered to.

The Mrs did a few years with WA Police and wasn't allowed to take secondary employment in a licenced premise including pouring beers at Subi Oval. Instant dismissal if caught.

I have to fill out a form and get formal approval from my Manager and Director for secondary employment to avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest or use of their intellectual property, resources etc.

Agreed

Mon, 2021-02-01 20:04

Many jobs have restrictions on secondary employment where there is clearly either a real or perceived conflict of interest.  I've been subject to them myself.  However let's be real - a person working as a security guard is barely going to be supporting themselves financially on that income alone; it's naive to think they won't be doing additional jobs somewhere.

Now don't get me wrong - this isn't the fault of the individual, it's the government for not putting the right protections in place to ensure this didn't happen, but to simply suggest that they be forced to do nothing else but be a security guard is pretty laughable.

Yeah I agree with the guards not having other jobs so why not throw a few extra clams their way. After all they are performing high risk duties working around infected people. On the other hand these people cannot live in solitary confinement they are allowed to go out clubbing to restaurants and shops pubs sports etc so if they contract covid then it will spread.

Agree. To advise people in advance (like in the last 6 months) to have some available at home, because when the shit hits the fan, I will call them mandatory in like 4 hours would make sense for him to do. Botts chemist on Albany Hwy has a sign outside about having KN95 masks available. The car park was rather full in the afternoon, so they will be making a good $. And a friend of mine told me, that he got a limit of 5 from his local pharmacy. So I am sure you will be able to get some soon.

Having to be told by the WA

Having to be told by the WA Govt. that you should be prepared for another outbreak and have masks ? Come on, your not 12 bud.

Maybe being ex defence and lived through many a cyclone I always have a sense of being prepared to some degree.

Thankfully Woodside has working from home pretty much down pat for those who work in the city and this will be over and done with pretty quick.

Hopefully we have no more senseless deaths of our elderly folk, or anyone for that matter.

 Was due to happen Surprised

Mon, 2021-02-01 19:13

 Was due to happen

Surprised me it took so long.

Working in  a Respiratory Clinic in Wa sin ce April have been seeing about 5 patients on average a day since the initial phase.

Today almost 50!!

This is what happens with complacency because we have done so remarkably well and it won't happen to us mentality.

It is here in the world and it's  here to stay until we get herd coverage via vaccine or natural infection, or both.

I do hope the former as it is a truly shit of virus and we don't even know what it will do to us long term.

Stay safe, listen and get tested so we can all go fishing again.

Doc
