Copy and paste the link below Dakka, have a quick read.

Bit nerv racking the first few times but dont stress, can call in by mobile if thats easier.

Location wise you can give a heading East / South from the channel marker and the depth or just give a general GPS mark of the area youll be fishing.

general direction

Fri, 2017-03-31 20:10

just give them a general direction you will be heading, straight west NW SW and you intend fishing the 40 metre

line and that is good enough. if you make a huge change to your direction just call them up and tell them your plans

have changed

On your gps Put cursor on

Sat, 2017-04-01 18:00

On your gps Put cursor on area u plan on looking at and see what bearing it is then just give them a bearing direction of where your heading and how far out. As said if you move a long way off that bearing radio in and update location. If I'm searching for new ground I usually pick a spot to head to and watch sounder on the way too it. Gotta have somewhere marked to head to otherwise you end up driving in circles.

You would be using your plotter to get the direction your going to the location chosen, so would be a true bearing.
Your compass error shouldnt come into it.
