LOWRANCE USRv3 to USRv5

Hi Guys,

ive done a search and cant really find any information on this specific issues.

My old lowrance plotter (HDI-M) exports all gps files at .USR Version 3

My new HDS Gen3 only reads .USR Version 5

i tried GPS Babel and a few others but they only seem to go up to .USR Version 4

has anyone overcome this as i really want to get my spots onto the new plotter

It doesn't seem to differentiate, may work? Tell you what, just email them to me and I'll try it out. No peeking, promise

I was getting parsing errors trying to import my old .usr waypoints to my new HDS Carbon GPS. After a fair bit of research I found I had to convert them to GPX format using GPSBabel. GPSBabel is free to download. You must make sure you use V1.1 in the output field. All worked for me after doing this. Happy to help if you need it...sure beats typing then in again. BTW there is a bit on this in forums about this problem

I have been using GPSBabel for years and the version I had didn’t give me the option to specify the output version. I downloaded a new version and bingo it was there

yes correct i rang up lowrance tech support and they were very helpful.

it was a bit odd how the thing imported into the HDS Gen 3.

initially i tried to import as USRv3 and it failed with import error. initially i tried to import as USRv3 and it failed with import error.

i then loaded onto the PC and used GPS babel to convert to GPX format.

i then imported as GPX into the new Gen3. during the importing process though it repeatedly failed with import error.

i then tried to import as USRv3 again and it worked no problems. quite strange, but all the marks are there now and all correct.
