Lucanus Jigs

Merry Christmas Fello Fisho's

I hope everyone had a fantasic few days, days of family, eating and drinking Smile

I recieved quite a few lures for Christmas including a Shimano Lucanus!

Have anyone had any luck with them? what did you catch? and can some one give us some info on what depth should I use them around Perth?

Cheers

Havent caught any with the lucanus (yet Wink) but used other takaburas. Use them for demersals in the usual spots. Drift and depth affect the weight, but you can always dropshot them if needed. Either stick the rod in the rod holder with a light drag, or fish normally, and gently lift the rod every now and then. Theres videos online specifically for the lucanus jigs.

I have used them out on the five in about 30-40 mts of water and as the other bloke mentioned had them in the rod holder and have caught dhuies, blackass, sweep and a few kg,s on them didnt even have to jig the rod very lazy way of fishing,I have had best luck with the orange, pink and blue jigs

jig with a very slow up and down motion, they're really effective. You could also do the 'rod holder' method as described here but I think that kinda defeats the purpose of using jigs in the first place.

I basically always bottom fish with a Takabura now, even if I use bait I use the jig as the sinker. I am amazed at how many fish they catch, better than the bait. Best is to hold on and almost let the boat do the jig, otherwise a slow rise and drop. I have fished with the Lucanus but have yet to land a fish with them as both my jigs where creamed by an unseen leviathan of the deep. Next time I will try and be a little less sporty!!
