Lure types explained please?
Hi all,
Im keen to try baitless boat fishing with lures but my understanding of lure types and their uses is zero.
I actually bought a heap a few years ago but to this day i have a bunch of clumsy boxes in the bottom of my tackle box. (Instructions in japanese)
I have used a jighead with a soft plastic (i think thats right) successfully once and caught a small sized pinky off back of 3 mile reef but i reckon more by luck than design.
I also used a hard fish looking lure with a cpl of triple hooks tied straight from the loop on its nose on to my main line trolling behind the boat in the river and got a cpl of small chopper tailor.
I have tried the internet to get "type of lure" advice but it seems most are american or eastern states based and are confusing and apply mainly to freshwater fishing by the looks.
Have also tried the search engine on here but again its a bit annoying when jargon is used and its always assumed you know something about lures.
Is there an easy set of basics to know what type a lure is and what fish its used for or is it a bit more complicated than that?
If anyone knows any sites that comprehensively explain lures preferably in referance to perth fishing I'd appreciate a link?
Cheers in advance!!

If you can imagine what size
If you can imagine what size of baitfish the fish you targetting and what depth they are likely to be feeding at that might help ?
For example the lure you probably got the tailor on were likely a shallow diver around 100mm or smaller?
Knowing more about how fish hunt and what they are often feeding on might be more helpful than learning specifically about lures

Sorry i mustnt have been clear in my post.

Tell us what fish you're after...
...and we can tell you the best lures/techniques. Dhufish=jigs. Whiting=poppers. Herring & Salmon=anything that will fit into their mouths. Etc, etc, etc.
Generally, the best lures for a particular species are the ones that can be effectively presented to that species.
