Mandurah boat crash
Let me preface this post with my full respect and condolences to those deceased.
But FFS I'm absolutely shaking my head at the reported cicumstances of this crash.
No nav lights , speed and more than likely alcohol involved but not proven (yet)
This bloke has not only maimed himself but killed two women in the process, imo should have the book thrown at him when he gets well. There's no excuse.
From what locals have described there's Fwits speeding up that river at night all the time, where's the water police. They're happy to ream rec fishos at the ramp and fine this shit out of anyone for out of date flares but something like this is serious shit.
IMO in this day and age it should be mandatory to have a GPS on board for any night inshore/river navigation.
It harks back to that flog Woolard who slammed into a Nav marker on the Swan, he got off with a suspended sentence. I guess being well connected helps in this world.
Love the West!

Feel for young Rhett. My mate
Feel for young Rhett. My mate knows the family well having played with Steve at West Perth and his mum was a proper salt of the earth by all accounts. Wouldn't begrudge him taking indefinite leave
Officially off the Pies bandwagon

The little birdy
Everyone has a little birdy in their head that tells them this is not a good idea before they do it . Whether you choose to listen or not is up to each individual, if not it is called stupidity and it does not discriminant.
Condolences to all family & friends .

It's is a terrible tragedy
It's is a terrible tragedy and one that should absolutely have been avoided. I just cannot understand driving a boat fast at night when there are hazards around. An old mate of mine died in Bunbury when the speedboat he was driving ran bewteen the hulls of a moored catamaran. Also tragic and also very avoidable. He was always a speed freak but at night is just stupid. It's a shame that these lessosn must be learnt through more loss of life, rather than heeding the misery of others before.

Hard to believe and very
Hard to believe and very avoidable but perhaps also surprising this shit doesn't happen more often...
If the roads are anything to go by why would boating be any different.
The Freo one in daylight is even more unbelievable!!!
Hey shark, where did you find the chopper crash vid?
How the fuck did that happen also!!

A lot of rule breakers on
A lot of rule breakers on the Mandurah Estuary quite often. I did a cruise up the canals and also the Estuary for New Years. Christmas lights and fireworks. You should have seen the amount of boats with no lights everywhere. Even when underway, we followed one 30 footer at least with no lights at all. Not many had an all round light or stern light either.
Another day another example, I was fishing from the shore late at night in the Serpentine River in a narrow section. A tinny came barrelling along flat stick with no lights at all around a narrow bend. There was actually a kayak fishing there five minutes previously. Luckily it had just pulled out otherwise it would've been a disaster just about for sure.
Another example again, I was coming in 2am from fishing and a big sailing boat/yacht was coming out with no lights. If I wasn't alert it could have been a head on collision. It was on wrong side. It only turned a light on after I flashed the spotlight at it. There will be more accidents in there just about guaranteed sadly.
