Margaret River fishing

Hi all,

Heading down to Margaret river with the family in a week, staying in town area.

Hoping to take the my two young girls out for a fish for herring/whiting and also go out for a fish myself off the beach after the usual stuff ( tailor etc ).

Not after any secret spots but would be grateful for any advice on easy/safe spots for the kids in the area, and any areas I could try when I go off on my own.

Cheers,

Joycey

Love Cosy Corner just south of Hamelin

The beach to the south is safe but a slightly steep walk down. Rocks to the Northern hedland obviously a little dodgy for kids, but good for a fish for herring and skippy.

Well,

I was at Cosies today and the beach is almost totally weeded out, rocks are still OK but still some floating weed/kelp around. Few Herring and the odd salmon.

From this time of year till about October west coast Capes beaches can be very difficult to fish being highly weather/wind/swell dependant. Any swell over 2m rules out almost 80% of have decent beaches.

Beaches along Geo bay around Dunsborough are alot more forgiving but thats a fair hike from Margs.

Not exactly an expert on the are but here goes.

with the kids

River mouth at margaret river

gnarabup beach (not near the swimmers though)

most ts relaxing and easy place in that part of the world though would have to Augusta (estuary of Blackwood river).

on your own try any exposed beach (in a swell below 2metres) contos, red gate or boranup.

as previously mentioned cosy corner as well

 There are some black bream

There are some black bream in the river itself, you can walk a little way up (<100m) from the mouth and chuck some prawns in, we got a couple doing that a few years back (all small, one nearly size). Don't know of any access further up. Just a thought for a backup to entertain kids if the weather is crappy.
