Well, bloody hooray for the guy who designed this, great idea and what the 585/587/588 has always needed. A big fat BOOOO to Furuno for not implementing this at the factory in the FCV range......

If it works as advertised, I probably would not have sold my FCV587. It was a great machine except for this poxy feature.

So if I'm reading it right

So if I'm reading it right the box is $280 to connect the 2 devices working on NMEA0183 which I thought was possible anyway without the box but you need a adaptor to connect to NMEA2000 but no info on price of the adaptor. Sounds good but what's the all up price going to be?

No the price is for the adapter box that allows nmea1083 devices to beable to connect to nmea2000 devices. Look at the markfish web page

 Not necessarily just a NMEA

Thu, 2016-08-04 11:21

Not necessarily just a NMEA 0183 to 2000 connector, it's also a babel fish. You see, Furuno uses a different nmea language to others......and you thought it was all standardized...haha. Nope.

The issue is that Furuno use TLL (target longitute latitude) to mark whilst other devices uses WPL (waypoint location). Furuno are making a mockery of NMEA really...

Accuracy of waypoint

Thu, 2016-08-04 12:32

I assume it is more accurate to mark the waypoint on the Furuno then have it transferred to the Lowrance HDS plotter via markfish than just marking the spot that on the plotter or am I missing something ?

Yeah mate, with the Furuno

Thu, 2016-08-04 13:08

Yeah mate, with the Furuno you hit mark which pauses the screen then you move the cursor back to the lump/fish to get the exact coordinates. Hitting mark on the plotter is still ok but if you are trolling at 8knots and looking out for cray pots, watching your rods etc you could be a good distance past the spot before you hit mark.

Of course you can drive back over your track line but I like having the Furuno linked up so I can hit marks whilst trolling to check out at a later date or later in the morning.

Advantage for backtracking

Thu, 2016-08-04 13:11

If you are moving slowly over the ground, mark on plotter is accurate. If you are travelling at speed when yoiu chuck a mark in, you could be some distance out. Or, if you are trolling and spot something just going off the edge of the screen, you can just run the cursor back to the mark, put it in from there. Like the cheapest Lowrance hdi's where you can put a mark in from the sounder cursor. Very useful. You can currently do this with the Furunos, but it is only stored within the sounder, and mark capacity is very small. From what I have read on other forums, only caution is to keep clearing the local storage within the sounder, or it will give you a memory full message and you won't be able to cursor any more in until the memory is cleared.

Thanks for the information

Cheers guys, appreciate, it pausing the sounder screen and putting the cursor on the mark makes good sense, I'm in.
