Metro Ruby Rewards 10th April 2009

With awesome weather over the last week i wanted to capatalised. My mission was to do more reconnaissance over the 4 days in the deepwater and rack up more new spots with most of the 4 days being solo so the pressure was off.

With that done and some nice fish coming aboard i thought i'd have a look at Ruby snapper on the last day as i havnt targetted them for a while. I revisted a new spot that i marked previously during recon. With my head in the sounder so to speak over the last 4 days i thought a quick trip out yesterday and dropping at the new spot would be the go and return a bit earlier to unwind.

I found something yesterday that looked very much like Rubys and dropped. The rod got a few touches and i'm on, after a long wind up a big plump Ruby snapper surfaced and was a welcomed sight. I did another drift and got another one of silimar size. I was happy with my 2 fish and planned to head in straight away but a water pic would be nice.

I made contact with a friends boat and went over to him. I got his decky to jump aboard and take a few pics. The weather, the reconnaissance and the fish made for a productive 4 days !

Deepwater!

Sat, 2009-04-11 19:57

Cheers fellas'. Honsu took those shots and they turned out good!

WOPJRB, they're a pretty looking fish (goldfish ha ha) and i'm getting them deeper than 290m  but i've also got them shallower so very spread out thats for sure.

Yeh Russ its next on the list. A friend who got me originally excited about deepwater fishing over a year ago now has been doing well on Bass Grouper & Blue-eyeTrevalla for some time. He got a Trevalla a few weeks ago that went 27kg (weighed)......awesome stuff/inspiring!

Nice work Ryan. That shorter one looks like it had a bit of weight to it.

Getting pretty busy with other boats out down my way lately. Think I might have to start doing some recon up north and try get some of these Rubys and Hapuka you've been finding lately. Long way from Rocky thou.

Rubysnapper & Harpuka!

Sat, 2009-04-11 22:40

When that first Ruby came up i thought geez your a plump bugger and the meat was bulgy over the whole body unlike the many others i've caught!

Yes i know what ya mean Tim, i saw some traffic also. I went down to your Rocko way for greyband cod that U & Jason have been doing well on. I've been there twice now with not bad results. We racked up greybanded, redsnapper, pinksnapper & a sambo for the two trips so diverse!

Head a fairway North mate and get away from those stinkin cod Tongue out.....you'll get into Harpuka,Rubys and more if ya do. No one else fishing my spots bar me so there's room but a drive thats for sure!

Clicked up approx 280 NM of drivin & reconaisance in the last 4 days on the water but well worth it when your racking up heaps of spotsLaughing

3D Grid searching!

Sun, 2009-04-12 09:48

Cheers Rick and the time on the water is getting there slowly. I'm grid searching with my colour 2D & colour 3D sounder & plotter program on my boat. That takes time to get correct input so plenty of NM,recon & patience as you need to drive slowly. Racking up spots & getting rewards, seeing the ocean floor is a buz also. Shows me a few things ie variences that make me go oohh ahhh....must drop!

Goldfish!

Mon, 2009-04-13 22:47

Thanks fella's!

Weighed em & filletted them last night. The plump goldfish went 10.20kg and the other one was 9.70kg!

Yeh Jay, been racking up the spots via recon so we can hit the Rubys/Harpuka & other dwellers with jigs. KC is ordering some deepwater heavy jigs for us tonight and we'll get out there soon as i'm really keen!~
