Metropolitan Cuttlefish Report

I know i'm a breamer and didnt think my first report was going to be on cuttlefish. Sorry guys the bream reports will come soon.

So i did the Southern groynes and rock walls and started slow at one spot but thought I'd persist there as the conditions were perfect. As a first time cuttlefisher i didnt expect much and didnt even see one squid about. My chances were now slimming down with the light fading and kept jigging. I saw this massive deep hole between rocks and decided to pop in jig down there when this football sized dark shadow grabbed my jig. After a few anxious moments rubbing on rock and this thing pulling a little line of me, i finally managed to grab the net and land it. Whoo hoo!!!!!!! My first cuttlefish and thought it wasnt a bad size either.

So i searched a few more holes and managed to pull another 3 out before the sun fell, but none as big as the first.

And i tell you what... They tasted brilliant!!

Thanks for reading enjoy the photos, had to take solo so they arent that good

Photo 1. The first and the biggest

Photo 2. One of the others(and a big hint on location :))

Photo 3. All 4 bagged up(heads and tenticles are seperate)

Photo 4. The end result, crispy fried morrocan spiced cuttlefish and bought chips haha

Dave

Good stuff mate, how do you find cleaning them?

We kept one we caught out deep and my mate spent over half and hour cleaning it and we've just let them go from then on, altho sometimes it can be a serious challenge getting the little $h!s off without copping a face full of ink.

Thanking you!

Yeah thanks heaps guys! Was a real good evening didnt think i'll be coming home with 4 of them. 3 for a feed and one for bait. And yeah they are killer bait!

Scott99-Haha the jig! I only caught the first one with the jig in the photo and caught the others on a greeny/brown colour Yo-suri. The one in the pic i have no idea what its called, it was giving to me along time ago, has a catamone skin.

psion-Just like squid mate i was told. Very high heat, for only 35 to 50 seconds.

milsey-I actually took my catch straight to a mates who showed me how to clean and prepare them. To be honest they arent that bad to clean if you are gentle.

try mashing up a kiwi fruit and marinating for 15 minutes before cooking, they end up very edible and soften up
