mindarie heads up

i was out at mindarie yesterday from about 9 o'clock am to about 6 o'clock pm and we caught a 35cm leatherjacket and a 30cm skippy . there was a girl there that also caught a leatherjacket slightly bigger but it snapped the hook just as she was putting it into her bucket
a guy and his wife came around 2 o'clock and they were catching skippy after skippy around 30cm each and there was also some biggggg ones in the mix.
Dad had his alvey in the water and we were just fishing with our spinning combos and then his alvy screamed off and we decided there wouldve been a tailor approximately 5kg's but it pinged him the same thing happened about 3 hours later but with a smaller fish and he brought it in close but it pinged him b4 we could see what it was but altogether it was a great day
ps. we got annoyed with you guys zippin into the harbour so fast!!!! and so close to the point

Nice one... Was down there

Nice one...

Was down there today... not as lucky as you were... maybe it was my location...

Got up at 6am this morning, went down to my local spot in quinns, not bad conditions as the sun was rising but it weeded up pretty quick from the big swell so I was gone by about 7.30am...

went to mindarie, decided to try the outside wall, about 80m back towards the platform from the end of the road where everyone parks to fish inside the marina....

Not much activity, was getting chopped to pieces by little stuff, so i switched from 3/0 down to 1/0, still no hookups so I changed to size 1 and started landing whiting...

Others were landing garfish however, no real activity other than that and it was packed...

what rig were you using and where abouts on the wall were you situated?

interesting rig combinations

Sun, 2007-07-15 15:50

interesting rig combinations you got there?

Are you striking back at the fish or are you letting them sit out there and letting the fish hook themselves?

I once tried using a 4/0 ganged mulie with a 1/0 hook further up the leader before... didnt think it was that flash lol

Might try mixing up my hooks on leaders a bit more since you bastids keep getting all the good shit :P

Flying

That was because we were so light without any fish onboard.

We did slow down to let you go through first though Tim. I am pretty sure we were doing about 30knots then dropped back to about 10 within 50m of the rockwall and then 5 knots as we rounded the point. Having fished that rock wall myself I know how you feel Irish. But you have to understand when the marina is busy as it was when we came in (the sea rescue boat was heading out at the same time), the guys coming in have to stay close to the rock wall as there are no lanes on the water, you have to stay to the right rather than the left as with a car. That may be why it looks like they aren't giving you much room.

If we created too much wash I apologise, but I can assure you it wasn't intentional.

Cheers
