Missing cray pot
Submitted by Brando on Wed, 2020-12-02 19:02
Hi all
When I was coming back into Hillarys this morning early directly into the sunlight I accidentily ran over a pot float. I couldnt reattach the float as we couldnt find the rope. I have the floats and if your float is MA 0567 please PM me. I am happy to purchase a new set of ropes for your pot. If you know of anyone who's pot this maybe, please also PM me and I can get in touch with them.
Thanks

That's unfortunate but
That's unfortunate but sometimes these things happen when pots are set in places that boats transit through and/or if they have loads of surface rope. I'd much rather someone tell me they ran over it than it just disappear!

Thanks all
I was wondering LJ when I put them in my boat whether I was doing the right thing. I intended on pleading that I was going to try to contact the owner and give them their floats back.
Thanks for the feedback.

If they wanted to
They could book you . Your not even allowed to pick floats up of shoreline island beaches .Look done right thing for sure , no dramas at all. Just got to be careful that’s all. Image guy reporting his pot stolen and your caught with his float . See where there could be confusion on matter .all good .

Found a floating pot
I found a floating plastic pot once tangled with my floats, with about 30 metres of rope trailing on top of the water. Obviously whatever weight was in it came adrift and fell out. Was a mission to get to my pot with all the rope in the water, so I pulled it into my boat.
When I finished I threw it back over, but then realised it was just a boating hazard, so I pulled it back in and left it at the launching ramp at Ocean Reef, hoping that the owner might find it.
I felt morally comfortable with what I did, but in the eyes of Fisheries rules I could have been done for tampering with someone else's gear.

Good onya
Couple of years ago we were pulling our 3rd pot and the 4th was not far away, we saw the float. Fisheries were out just hooning around in their jet boat and no-one else was around. Went to pull 4th pot and it had dissapeared. Fisheries had stopped 100mtrs away and were fucking around with the jet drive, we thought they must have chopped my float off so we were searching for a rope. Couldn't find it so went back to marina. I went straight over to fisheries and asked them about my pot. GET THIS.....Ray the inspector told me a fisherman had run over my float and then pulled my pot and gave it to fisheries as they were passing by. COMPLEAT BULLSHIT. I got my pot back from fisheries and shook my head at the prick. I should have made a complaint, assholes.

Do they?
Didn't know it was jet drive untill they had to dry dock it for repairs days later after losing power dragging a craypot for 100mtrs...By the way my float was still attached and why wasn't the "fisherman" charged with fucking with my gear?

Missing Pots - Hillarys
Hi guys,
my mate has pulled his pots this morning straight out from Hillarys in 18m, and has told me mine that were next to his are missing. He searched 400m in either direction with no luck. Understand some grubs pull other peoples pots and not put them back. But these are two brand new complete rigs at just under $600. If you see them in your travels ( one fluro yellow and one white float) my gear number is BN1071 on one of the floats. Please let me know and I will certainly buy you a beer of your choice. Hoping to get out saturday morning for a more extensive seach.
cheers

That sucks
I saw some near 31.50.111s, 115.42.223e. I have a similar yellow/white (was yellow / blue but very faded paint) combo WSW of marina in 10-12m so always notice other floats that are same/similar. Good luck

Few went walk about rocko
Area today . Unfortunately happens every year . I always engrave every part of my gear . Slats /frames even bait box lids . Been done over 3 times this year ( pots 100 m plus) away from where I put them . ( only feelers left behind) One day they will get caught out I hope .

Shouldn’t have to
Do it but seems to work for us . I do same on frame . The rest I use very hot solder iron . And burn pot I’d . Names all over it . Basically they would have to almost do pot rebuild .

Thanks guys
your right curndog, I havent put pots in for a few years. Hence the new top of range pots, only put them in Sunday for first time. Even spent up on quality bait. I usually id everything, but work has been busy and just ran out of time. Wondering why I bothered at all. Cheers for the look out Brando, other float has my deckies id in black marker.
hopefully the dopes have just drifted a long way before pushing them over the side.

If u only put them in Sunday
If u only put them in Sunday I reckon there's a fair chance they have just moved. I dropped mine Friday and weather was bit wild Monday but I reckon there must of been some strong tide current movement. I was surprised how far they moved from where I marked them. Also they moved out not in. I'm at Mindarie. So when you go looking I'd say look west - south west to where you dropped them. Let us know if you find them

Grasshopper if your straight
Grasshopper if your straight outs Hillarys most probably been propped. If you know approx where it is there's dudes on gumtree who will dive in it for you..illy if traffic and pots through there that's why I go elsewhere. I moved closer for ease but lost a heap of pots. So moved back away

Thanks Cjsurf
Just got to the warehouse and flicked on the sounder, Pot 1 was located at S 31 49.6654 E 115 40.901 and Pot 2 - S31 49.673 E 115 40.894
I will check it out tomorrow, they are brand new so pretty bright (painted the fluro yellow float saturday night before putting out on the Sunday). Hopefully they have just shifted or been dumped in a different location.
