Try brighton/scarborough. Dont have to cast too far either, just lob it into the gutters and wait!

Hi Kaitan. I don't know if you are interested, but I am going to try Shizz's suggestion tonight. I have plenty of burley and hopefully the tailor and a muloway (or two) might turn up. Regards Cllin Hay

Good luck with the exams. Unfortunately I have to attend a function tomorrow night and can't get out of it. If I have any luck tonight I will let you know. All the best Colin Hay

You could try the Ammo jetty

Thu, 2007-11-22 12:52

You could try the Ammo jetty that place has been doing well lately just have someone check on the car from time to time has some of the lowlifes like to break in to them.Easiest place in Perth to catch mulloway

Runs just off rockingham

Thu, 2007-11-22 15:53

Runs just off rockingham road if you look up in the street directory I think it comes under henderson reserve, sometime you have no problems but others you will have your windows smashed and the natives will go through your car mainly looking for money and stuff.I have caught numerous mulla's from there in the past plus a few sharks has a nice decent channel that runs out from the right hand side of the jetty

Ammo jetty sounds like a good fishing spot, but judging by a few previous threads, a real bad place for hoons who like to break into cars. It is probably too far south for me though.

Does anyone know if you can catch Mulloway at North Beach. There looks to be a bit of a reef out in front of the man-made fishing platform there.

Its ok if you can get

Thu, 2007-11-22 22:12

Its ok if you can get someone to drop you off and do an allnighter just need to make sure the tides are in your favour or like one of the locals who rides his moped out to the jetty with a fishing trolly in tow.Its good like Sam said during the day to collect a quick bucket of bait

Scarborough session

Fri, 2007-11-23 06:53

Wet down to Brighton/Scarborough last night an hour or so before sunset. Parked in the dog beach car park and after a reasonable walk found some great gutters. The conditions were fantastic and Shizz was right, it is a great spot and you don't have to cast too far to be in a prime location. First cast my K-mart purchased threadline reel gave up the ghost (you get what you pay for). Managed to hook a small tailor, but with no drag, handlining in on braid was not much fun. Released that one.
I then had to call upon my 20 odd year old Shimano overhead as my only option. Great reel. It has caught me some big mulloway and some great Queenfish, but in the veteran class and not so good for beach casting (specially in the dark). Managed to catch another small tailor and let it go back to grow up.
I think I may have burleyed up too hard. Got quite a few hits from bottom feeders and then the sand crabs moved in. As soon as your weight hit the bottom they just jumped on. Managed to get a few to the beach (hoping to use them as bait, surely they don't each other -or do they) but they let go as soon as they felt fresh air.
So in the end I went home with a clapped out reel (can't wait till I get my new Shimano baitrunner) and no fish for brekky. But it was a beautiful night and a great spot (just got to watch out for rookie kite surfers - I was dive bombed by one).
Kaitan if you are thinking of heading down that way, make sure you have some corks to keep your bait off the bottom. I would also look at parking somewhere else. There was plenty of evidence that hoons have been breaking into cars in the dog beach car park.
But it is definately a place to give the mulloway a try. Great gutters, plenty of small fish and crabs around.
Should be a great nioght for it tonight. Tide rising up to sunset.
All the best Colin Hay

Hi Kaitan

Fri, 2007-11-23 11:38

I got there an hour before sunset and stayed until 9.30 pm (was getting nervous about my car). To get to the spot I was at you head south down West Coast hHighway. About 2km south of Observation City there is a car park on the right hand side which says Pearshom St Dog Beach or something like that. It is then a hundred metre or so walk to the beach. I went right and walked a couple of hundred metres towards Observation City. There was a nice hole there. In fact there were nice holes everywhere. I was using mulies.

Do you live north of the river. Maybe you should try Quinns rock groyne. According to the West Australian today a lady got busted off by what is believed to be a big mula and shen then caught a 15 kilo one off the northern groyne. Don't know the place myself, but sounds like a good bet to me.
Hope the exams went well. Good luck tonight. Bought myself a new Banax iso 7000 reel. No more drag failures I hope. All the best Colin
