Hi All,
Been fishing for a while at a Perth metro beach (North) and been pulling up heaps of Mullas around the 700mm-1000mm mark lately. (Last 2 months).
Had been fishing on Friday/Saturday and Monday night and have pulled up 5 decent size Mullas rangin from 750mm-850mm.
Been an awesome season for them. I had a full run on Monday night which would have been at least 10kg Mulla, but it wrapped my line around a reef and snap.
Also caught a Salmon Trout and a 5 kg Salmon. Didnt think they were running up this far North.
All in all, it was a good weekend. Cant wait for the thumping Snapper and Tailor at this beach durring winter.
Cheers

They were comming in just after sun down. Especially on Monday night. Just casted out and bang, they were hokked within not even a minute.

Was up fishing a NOR beach
Was up fishing a NOR beach Saturday night and had a similar expereince without the joy of landing a Mulla :(
Line was in the water all of 20 seconds (first cast of the night/evening) and BANG, was on. Had a good 20 second run, tightened up the drag a touch, and got the customary head shakes. Managed to get about 20m of line back in... then the dredded snap. Thought it mast have chewed it off (using 60lb mono leader) but alas when I got my line in it was broken off at the main line (50lb braid). The leason to be learnt here is if you have a big tussle with a fish close to rocks, always remove a good portion of your main line to get rid of chaffing. Rookie error on my behalf and I paid for it.

That`s why I always use mono.
That`s why I always use mono. I will never use braid. I know its new technology, but mono superseeds it all. Only should be used for boat fishing.
Better luck next time Torquen Fish:)

Agree, its been pretty good
Agree, its been pretty good for mullas this year....mostly school size for me but not complaining. Did have an extremely quiet night on Saturday (was like a watery graveyard...and the moon made it rather spooky) at my usual haunt but hopefully this weekend is an improvement. If it's the same beach I think you've been fishing from then the thought of snapper there has me shaking at the knees.
Good work on the salmon, would love to see a pic of it.

I lost the Salmon due to the reefs snagging my line. Def Salmon because it was jumping out in the air about 2 foot. I've caught heaps of Salmon to know if it was.

Caught a couple more Mullas
Caught a couple more Mullas this Saturday night. It was an awesome night. Caught 5 but kept only 2. This place is pumping with Mullas. I thought it would be a crappy night because there was an ESE breeze. It proved me wrong.
