Navman Tracker 5500 Repairs
Submitted by collie5 on Tue, 2012-11-06 12:05
I have a Navman Tracker 5500 and it has suddenly stopped working. I was wondering if anybody knew the best place around Perth to try and get this repaired?
I suspect it may be the plug, my echo sounder (also a navman) is working fine.
It's fairly old and not worth much money so I didn't want to spend too much on it.
Any help would be great. Thanks alot.

Theyre not a bad little
Theyre not a bad little plotter and generally pretty reliable. Probably the most popular (or common) plotter of all time.
which plug are you talking about? Your navman sounder should have the same power lead to test it?
When you say "stopped working" do you mean its dead or doesnt get a position?
A new GPS antennae is only about $20 off ebay.
Ive got a dead one (water damaged) in my shed you could have for parts gratis but to pay a tech to fix it will likely cost you $50-$100 just to take the screws out of it.

Yeah when mine stopped
Yeah when mine stopped working it was just an antennae, agree on the new one off ebay for $20. I'm not sure of the longevity of the ebay antennas so I bought 2 and keep a spare in my tackle bag, but first one is still going strong so far.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Mine Played
up, screen wouldnt load up. Rang a few numbers on the net and got through. Mine's the 6505 i think.
Was told the only way to fix it was a master reset, lost every non productive spot i gained over a 2 year period but the sounder plotter now works fine.
Try this if you wish, To reset with power off, hold down the menu botton and turn on at the same time, then just follow the set up options.
Good luck

heres a suggestion Brock
heres a suggestion Brock thatll only cost ya a carton
Every now and then or after a big trip, bring up the waypoints page on your plotter and take a photo of the data with your phone/camera.
Then you can at least put it in manually if that happens

Thanks Rod
I believe you mentioned this in an early thread when another member lost his data, so I took advantage off the free advise back then!
Its funny since the reset how I found the unit a lot easier to set up and believe I am getting a much better image, still to find a productive spot so the camera isn't required yet.
