Net building

Hi Everyone, just wondering if I could ask for people's advice with regards to net building?

I managed to score 90 metres of really good 50mm netting, 25 meshes deep, perfect for making a 60 metre haul net at a very good price on Gumtree. I've managed to score 60 metres of 4mm galv chain from work, so, there's my weights sorted, but, I'm trying to find floats for it at the moment (those little brown plastic ones on crab nets are my preference) and I'm seeing them for $2-3 each in stores, and not much cheaper on eBay.

Does anyone have any sources where I could get cheaper floats from, I'll need about 65 floats all up, so, at $3 each, it really adds up. I have some pool noodle which I could cut up, and I reckon would be great, but, the stuff deteriorates after a while, and if I'm putting the effort into making the net, I might as well do it right.

Chain

Forget using the chain as bottom rope weights, better off sourcing some net leads or lead core rope. Much the same goes for the floats, spend the money and have a net that will last you years and catch fish.

If it is not hung properly it won't catch as it should and be a waste of time and money

Old net

I threw out an old net some time ago but kept the floats and the weights.  The weights have since been recycled as sinkers however I still have 52 net floats.  I'm not sure what they are made of; they are not cork but look like some form of moulded hard polystyrene material.  They are yours if you want them.  I'm located in North Perth.

Good to meet you too, thanks again for the floats.

No worries about the sinkers, its good to be able to trade with surplus resources when you have them. Cheers
