New boating regs in VIC and you rekon we have it bad here in WA
my brother made me aware of this today
Here is an extract of what they are proposing:
Unsuitable vessels would be prevented from operating in coastal waters. In the absence of information about design standards, vessel
length could be the determining factor in setting limits.
Two possible approaches are set out below.
Recreational vessel Restriction
Length 0 – 4.8m Limited to enclosed waters
Length 4.9 – 8m Limited to 20nm offshore, (37km)
and must have a VHF radio
and be within VHF radio
range of a shore station
Length over 8m Unlimited
OR
Recreational vessel Restriction
Length 0 – 4.8m Limited to enclosed waters
and 2nm offshore in coastal
waters. This acknowledges
the current 2nm ‘within visual
range’ limit for not being
required to carry EPIRBs
and radios.

Pretty tough
I can see where they are coming from, but the regs are a bit harsh- wouldn't be able to take me 4m tinnie 10m out from Lano, any boat less than 8m wouldn't be able to get to the FADS

Whats the weather like there
Whats the weather like there though?
It does get rugged in Vico. I guess anyone who fished Port Philip bay will go ballistic just for a fish for Snapper inshore. A 5 mile limit would have been better.
Has it been legislated yet? Or is it a proposal?

proposal atm from what i
proposal atm from what i know, for the most it wouldnt affect alot just the offshore fishos mainly in areas like portland bass straight and around the lakes enterance area's. pretty harsh imo as a town like portland and warnambool who thrive as a fishing town will lose out big time, an 8m boat is a big boat and 20nm isnt very far,
