new sounder, electrical setup

 Hey guys,

Iv got a new Lowrance sounder that i cant get working. It runs fine straight off the battery but it wont run off the terminals under the dash that the old sounder was running off. To through a spanner in the works the old sounder stopped powering up which i put down to corrosion in the power plug as there is a lot of green and bits missing on the female end of the pins.

So any idea where i should start? There is an inline fuse in the positive line which looks fine. The wiring of the new sounder looks designed to hook onto terninals in close range of the front dash rather then run all the way down to the battery.

I would get hold of one of those electrical current indicator thingies that you clip one end onto your earth or negative and touch the tip of the pen on the postive sode and if there is a charge the lamp in the pen glows.  If not, move further back towards the battery until you find power.  That way you can isolate where the problem may is.

Yeah that would be a good place to start. Would there be a fuse along the positive between the front terminals and battery?  There are 4 fuses under the dash that all look ok but i dont think they had anything to do with original sounder. Oridinal sounder had ni inline fuse either

Does any of the equipment attached to the old terminals under the dash work? If so then try connecting to one of the known working terminals. If that works then it is the terminals themselves at fault. If nothing on those terminals works then it is wiring between the terminals and battery.

Turns out there was a blown 25 amp fuse just after the isolator near the battery box. An $8 curcuit test light made it pretty short work. Sounder is working a treat, thanks for the help.
