If Troy Buswell or his staff read this, please forgive me for all the nasty and insulting comments I've made in the past and I now think you're absolutely wonderfull. See ,I can kiss arse with the best of them.

 I think it will be a good thing. For all his widely spoken of faults I've found him to be pretty reasonable bloke to talk to in person.

he might be a great bloke

but pretty sure he is still the treasurer?

Will this portfolio get much attention at all?

This might be a good thing, but would not be expecting many changes.

One thing i do know from the times i have met Troy is that he DOES like Fishing, and Crabbing. Well thats when he used to live in Port Geographe before all the Scandals and Adele Carles shit happened. So hopefully he still does  :)

dodgy

Wed, 2013-03-20 15:22

dodgy. I wonder if he will change all the future oil and gas rigs that are going to pop up from Albany all the way up the coast. I was talking with a friend yesterday in gero and if people think that their fishing areas are safe down south think again as norman moore had approved all of these future rigs and they are going to be built unfortunately. its all been kept pretty quiet but someone should start raising these issues because not only commercial fishermen will be affected but also the rec sector. good ol liberal party! they are about to ruin the whole south coast and it doesn't matter how much stink is going to be kicked up the plan is in place and is going ahead. very disturbing.

Well thats only a problem if you are opposed to oil and gas rigs from being put in on the south coast(NIMBY).

Other than them looking ugly, not being allowed to fish around them, and the very very small chance of something going wrong(spill) i dont see a problem with them. Could create alot of jobs for the non greens and hippies down this way.

 Well you did have a chance to vote in the election. No point being concerned now with your donkey vote. As Buz say this industry actually creates jobs and keep the economy going. They are usually miles out to sea and unreachable by most vessels.

I was in Troy Buswell's office just after the State election and he mentioned that the license fee's for fishers was going up. I took it as a joke at the time and we all had a good laugh but was he laughing with me or at me.Hard to tell with Troy because he loves a good joke.

license fees

Wed, 2013-03-20 18:44

Would someone who's in the know be able to tell us whats been done with our rec license fees to date.  I read heaps of eastern states reports on restocking under taken as a result of license fees.

On that note, one must congratulate recfishwest of late, Im not sure what has changed over there, but it really does seem like they are getting things done at present from some of the media releases going around.

These are some of the projects funded through the recreational fishing initiatives fund from the first round in 2012:

Restocking the Swan / Canning River with prawns;
Restocking mulloway along the west coast;
Development of industry/research partnerships;
Investigating blue manna crab populations in popular recreational crabbing areas;
Determining seasonal movements of Black Bream;
You tube videos promoting recreational fishing in WA;
Young future leader training; and,
Evaluating the interconnectedness of squid population on the South coast

Then there is $50K a year given to small community based projects such as:

Jurien Fads, new fish species signs for Esperance, fishing educational trips for underprivileged children in the East Kimberley and the manufacture of “brag mats” to educate fishers and improve compliance in Broome. (these are just some of the projects funded in 2012)

Perhaps the most important bit though, is the fact that your licence money goes towards supporting a peak body which through sustained negotiation in the past twelve months has acheived:

Improved rock lobster share, including an increase in the bag limit, boat limit and diving at the abrolhos.

An extra pink snapper in the shark bay bag limit

Barramundi stocking in lake Kununurra

Ensuring the communities views were heard in relation to the simplification of fishing rules, including the decision to maintain the current posession limit at 20kg of finfish.

Artificial reef deployment in Geographe Bay (some licence money went directly into this project too, to add to funding from royalties for regions)

Thats off the top of my head, but there is more...

Good times for rec fishers ahead too ;)

Fisheries officers

I've seen a heap more fisheries officers since the license fee went in as well, which I think is a great thing. I assume it was related.

Troy Buswell's pretty good at blowing his bags and causing a stir and it will be interesting to see if any changes are made to the sanctuary zone in Geo. bay both State and Federal MPA's.Here's hoping.

Time will tell.

I've only just seen this thread,

Howard George, I'm not sure that Troy Buswell should ever be prefixed with the words honourable!!!

How he still had a job leaves me shaking my head. His indiscretions (chair sniffing/bra pulling) would have anyone in the private sector out on their ear in record time. Plus playing around on his wife and betraying his family is in my opinion one of the lowest acts a bloke could perform.

As for rigs on the south coast; it amazes me that we still have these debates over oil rigs. There are numerous folks who earn a living from this industry and live on the  southwest/south coast. They support local businesses and the community with all that (dirty) cash they earn. I know this as I'm one of them! Until we stop driving our cars, using our boats and buying fishing line made from petroleum based products the rigs will keep drilling.

I think time will be the deciding factor if and when the DISHONOURABLE Troy Buswell actually does any good by the fishing community.
