New Yamaha 4 stroke

So after a local 'mechanic' killed my trusty evinrude, i am looking to get back on the water with a new Yamaha 4 stroke.

Any recomendations for a quality fit out, preferably SOR but not to bothered if it means a quality job.

 Really? Never associated

Really? Never associated value for money with Chivers. Even when I told them they were being killed price wise on a like for like item and asked if a Fishwrecked discount applied, they said no thanks and they missed out.

Requested quotes from 3 WA

Wed, 2021-08-25 20:16

Requested quotes from 3 WA Yamaha dealers for  2 x 175-225’s

Each one required a minimum 3 emails and phone calls just to get a response (not quote) over about 6 months

1-After 3 emails and 3 calls I was required to listen to a rather excruciating 30 min desk jockey spiel on why Yams are superior before he would give a verbal price, but failed to quote in writing despite several reminders. Truly it reminded me of the parent/principal interview for getting our first kid into the local Christian school as a non religious family. He also proffered that twice as many 200 yams as 200 Merc V6 were selling in WA. I’d be astonished if that were true, but if it’s anything like that it’s only the Gov ones propping that figure up.

1-quoted $10k higher than Mercs same hp, with no suggestion of a delivery date or deposit refund if it became excessive, no matter the time frame.

1- asked why I wanted a quote, “to get an idea of what they cost”.

”well if it’s all about the money, we’re selling plenty as it is”. Agreed to email me one though, nothing heard after 6 months.

All were $10k above Merc, and Merc agreed that refund would be ok as long as they hadn’t yet shipped. Reality may be different, we will see.

Yams are undoubtedly top engineering with more runs on the board than Merc, but so are Honda (heavy though), Suzuki (who the fuck knows what Suzuki are up to) and Merc have been making the right noises for a few years now after a chequered past and apparently an astonishing turnaround as far as I can see.

Time will tell...

 thanks for the replies :)

i was thinking of chivers , but seen they advertised for mechanics , so not sure of their current experience.

i live in rockingham , so yes Rockingham Boating is a good option .

After another local yard wrecked my motor, and having to take him to court , i really dont want to be messed around with a new motor install.

Chivers

I shopped around between Yamaha and Suzuki for a 200. I was fitting a new boat out myself and wanted to buy the controls separately so that I could cut all of the holes and fit them up before painting the hull. Chivers were the only dealer I could find who didn't treat me like an idiot or vitually laugh in my face. $600 deposit and they gave me everything I needed, simple enough transaction, you would think, but they were the only ones I could find who would entertain it.
They are all hopeless with email. I can get parts out of SIM Yamaha in the US easier than Perth.

i am not bothered if i pay a little extra, but get good service ( not that chivers price was higher )

Brett from Rockingham Boating is the new sales manager at Chivers...i know him from a long ago previous employer..so good to deal with some one i know.

Paid $500 deposit, now waiting around 8 weeks for delivery :(
