Exmouth Journey

Sat, 2008-02-16 06:20

Latest forecast I've seen is that Adam might be a little windswept in 72 hours.

BOM keeps changing the 72 hour position on this thing.
Last night at 10pm WDT it was going to hit Karratha, 7am this morning, it's lining up Exmouth as a CAT 4.

I suppose that's weather and chaos theory for you.

Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't even make landfall... they've been hopeless at predicting this one..

First the prediction was just south of broome, then 80 mile beach, then pardoo, then port hedland, then whim creek, then cape lambert, then karratha and now exmouth.

Not very confident with the current forecast.

Its unpredictability is what has got me worried.  Has been blowing strong here for the last 4 days and only going to get worse I guess.  Better get myself down the shops for my grog and food stores.

Current maps brought it back

Sat, 2008-02-16 15:26

Current maps brought it back towards Karratha... the 72h forecast has it hitting around Onslow at the moment. Wouldn't want a direct hit from a Cat 4 so that's probably a good thing for us. On it's current track I think we'd still cop a bit from it, likely to get a fair bit of rain.

We have just finished tieing everything down and packing stuff away.

Tense time here, it could still change direction towards Karratha still :(

How many days....

If the cyclone hits land, how many days does it usually take to dissapate and allow you guys to go fishing again. Also is the fishing any better or worse after the cyclone?

Cheers

hehe you might be right no worries..

Obviously I can't speak for everyone and I guess there may be cases where people have done well after a cyclone but I can't say that's ever been the case for us.

The last couple of times we've been out afer a cyclone we've struggled to even raise a scale.

Starting to get a bit of wind and rain here Adam (slowly building through the day).

Beadon Bay is starting to get a bit of a coffee coloured surf break look to it.

Hopefully Nicholas will slide past us tonight/tomorrow.

Having a nice long weekend but being stuck in the house sucks.

Guess they don't want you too boozed up for when the cyclone hits incase it does cause significant damage and devastation.  I think I'm going to hold off until the worst of it passes as it's certainly picked up in the last hour!! Then it will be partytime. :)

Exmouth v Onslow

Tue, 2008-02-19 13:11

The BOM radar shows winds at Learmonth at 61kmph and Onslow at 59kmph, so not much difference according to that. Not sure when the data is valid for, but it says current wind speed, so I assume relatively current????

The most we got was 42knots

Tue, 2008-02-19 16:38

The most we got was 42knots at Karratha AP on Sunday afternoon when the cyclone was at it's closest point to us. Mind you it was a strong Cat 3 at that point. It's pretty bloody windy hehe..
