Hey guys, been a while...can anyone give me the word on entering The above mentioned Creeks around Karratha? I have a 4.5m Barra boat, been wanting to get up into these backwaters, but had no time till recently...I know they are a bit of a secret, just want some advice on goin out through the 'back beach' rock bars, sand bars, neap tides things to know!!! etc etc ...
Cheers in advance!

mate, those creeks are not
mate, those creeks are not really tricky to get into at all
stay wide on the bends, enter on a high tide mate and you wont have any issues
nothing tricky about them
rockbar in nickol on the right as you come in just before the mangroves, yo will see that one as it goes right up on to the bank
there is one up on the left up in fields just before you start to bend to the right again
airport is just sandbars out the front mate, you will see a colour change generally on the deep water section. Just use your sounder. When you travel up stay about a mile off the coast and you will clear all the reefs. Only nose intoward the creek once your near the mouth, again you will see the deep water

Cheers!
Cheers Brad, excellent advice - will do. Loved your article in the WA fish mag too. Excellent, I think your the blokes responsible for all the Berekley Flick baits being sold out in Ktown... Cheers...

the channel is to the right
the channel is to the right coming into airport then swings 90 degrees across the front then in so run just past the mouth towards the hills and you'll see it, no rocks to hit there.
Fields you stay to the karratha side and come in there, about 100-50m out from the mangroves it then swings left in to the opening of the creek then stay to the right on the way in, holds a nice depth in the first section.
Nickol i haven't been up in years but from memory it's pretty much straight in. I get in with my 5.3m polycraft no worries on the neaps, if you can launch at the back beach on the incoming you can get in any creek.

Fields
Be very careful going up fields, as I did some minor damage to my prop and base of the leg last week while chasing a few barra. Depending on the tides it sometimes pays to trim your motor up to avoid damage. I hit the rockbar that brad is talking about so just be mindful.

yes it can get shallow after
yes it can get shallow after the first 2 bends i too found a log at trolling speed and found 0.5m of water, the shallowest we found was 1m in the channel heading towards the 3rd big bend. plenty of depth in the start of the creek mind you.
