No Need For Deep Drop In NZ
Went out fish with a few mates from here in the naki, went south all the way the to launch. There was always talk about these hapuka in the shallows from the boys and with a weather window we went out to hunt on their favourite grounds. We were fishing depths of 50 -79 m.
Morning was slow and fish were few and far between to be honest, with a couple small blue cod and a big bluey.
We came back to the original mark we fished as it was loaded with fish but we couldnt entice the bite, and first trop i was railed, ilke buckled over on PE4. it was touch and go for a while and i barely mooved the thing for the first 5 minutes , after a bit of i take some , he takes double i had a win by turning its head when the boat adjust the angle of the fish, it started swimming out to sea. After a 10 mins we saw colour and up came a puka..... We all called it for the high 20s, but it maxed out the clubs scales and ended up being 31.48kg on the house scalles.
awsome fish and stoked to get my first puka!

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Great Puka
Turboz
No need to bother targeting the in OZ now hey?
Ive seen that in NZ they get Puka and Wreckfish (Bass) in shallower (60-150m)
Any idea what depth they get Bluenose (Trevalla) in? Surely not those depths.

Matty,well with the way works
Matty,
well with the way works looking and the time i may be here for, i may get sick of fishing for them ..ha ha The shallowest the boys have got them is 40 m, and that wasnt no pub , went 42 kg.
in terms of the blue eye (blue nose) off the naki they only get them at the trench (deptsh of 200-250 ++) but at the kings and other places i am unsure. Ask me in feb!
though, at night time the boys have said the trevella come off the bottom , anywhere up to 100 m from the bottom. Wierd huh, never heard of that, but thats probaly cause no one fishes for them at night here!!
cheers dude

Agree
Also lived in NP when we originally immigrated from SA as a 12yo. Loved the fishing around the islands. But I dont recall to many deep droping in the late 70's.
Awesome fish and when the seasons on let the boys take you whitebaiting. Great fun.
