NOR comp results.......and the winner is............
Before I rattle off the winners and the all important bragging rights for North versus South I would like again to thank our key sponsors for making this event possible. Without them being involved and being prepared to support us locally we wouldn't have been able to put on the day.
Compleat Angler Joondalup
Oceanside Tackle & Marine
Compleat Angler Rockingham
Mandurah Pest Control
Hogsbreath Cafe Mindarie
Jody Pallett (Interior and Exterior Landscape Design and Construction)
Coates Cleaning Products
and others (you know who you are, and a big thank you for your silent contributions)
To the winners go the spoils, and whilst the NOR comp didn't have as big a catch as the SOR event, the diversity of species was pretty good I must say. It certainly appeared that everyone enjoyed the day, not necessarily so much for the quality of fishing but more the chance to catch up and put faces to names.
A personal thank you on behalf of Adam and myself goes to Tim for all his hard work behind the scenes in making the day a huge success. Also to anyone else who lent a hand, offered advice or simply showed up on the day, a big thank you too.
A quick reminder to all the anglers that caught dhuies and pinkies on the day that the research guys would love to take your frames. Just look for the Dhufish Frames thread and it has all the details. A total of 11 Dhuies were weighed in during the NOR comp and believe it or not that was the most common species weighed.
So here are the winners:
Biggest Baldie: ...........................Steve (Dean's dad)
Biggest Blackarse.......................Kal
Biggest Dhufish...........................Rob
Biggest KG...................................Cody
Biggest Leatherjacket.................Kal
Biggest Pinkie.............................Rob
Biggest Skippy............................SPESS
Unusual Catch.............................Salmo (Bonito)
Unusual Catch.............................Max (Red Throat Emporer)
Most species...............................Kal (5 species)
And the two biggies!!
Champion Angler........................Steve (712 points) That Baldie was a cracker!
Champion Boat...........................Kal, Khalid (boat average 503 points) I have some more prizes for you Kal)
And finally the big one...........
SOR..............................................243 points average per angler
NOR..............................................261 points average per angler
WELL DONE NORTH OF THE RIVER !!!!!!!! Bragging rights until the next comp.
As we mentioned on the day we still have the overall champion Angler trophy to be awarded and some money left over from the entry fees. We will endeavour to organise a Swan River "land based only" BBQ piss up gathering where some additional prizes will be available for a suitable Swan river category. This will allow all the shore based deckies that didn't get a crack on a boat a chance to win a prize. Details will be posted as soon as we can agree on a date, so watch this space.
Congratulations again to all the winners.
Cheers

Well first id like to thank
I really cant thank my crew because they caught F all useless i tell ya ,but on a positive note my brother Khalid caught his first dhuie undersized but at least he got the monkey off his back.Next year ill have to train them up a little to help the southers to a victory, but not too much that they out fish me.
I found it really hard work with no spots to fish in the gps, as i havent fished out of mindaries for over 5 years and my usual haunt being being Hillaries.I was prety dissapointed with my effort and my only real high light was finding a nice lump ,that was holding some pinkies ,cant wait to see what i can pull off it .Going to have to put up some video footage in the future as to exactly what to look out for when in search of new ground ,as i dont fish cray pots but like to find my own spots away from the norm.
With one land based leg left of the comp it will be good to see who catches what ,good luck to all that enter.
Also did anyone see the bait fish schools about 7nm n/w of the ramp.Bigest schools ive ever seen about 4-5 schools as big as footy ovals geting smashed ,we had a troll around while we cleaned up the boat a bit ,but no luck ,Emery recons he saw a maccy smash one of them .If we only had more time we could have put another spiecie on the list as well.
Also spuing i didnt take my camera out with me ,but then again i wouldnt have caught anything if i did.

Kal we saw a load of bait
Kal we saw a load of bait schools and we let out 3 crazy deep lures as most of the predators on our sounder were deeper down, but got nothing.

Congrats
Congrats to all the winners. A huge thankyou to Tim and Andy for doing the hard work in organising the event and sponsors as its been very difficult for me to do so from Exmouth.
Sounds like a great day out and hopefully the next comp (after the river bash) will be even bigger and better. Oh, and Nick from Research told me he can't wait to start processing the dhuie frames. :)

Well we have 8 dhuie frames in the freezer now and getting brought down to fisheries tomorrow. Are we going to start a new thread re: frames donated?
