While in k town I thought I would check out the local ramp. Got a bit of a shock as to how low the tide can go. Plenty of fish around as in mudskipp

Yep
4.5 to 5 metre tides are not unusual.
Old fishermen never die they just smell that way.

Back Beach
Yep this is normal for Karratha back beach, need 2.8m plus of water (tide) to get in and out comfortably. Dampier ramps not so and only need around 1.5m depending on size boat.
Cheers,
Disco.

This would certainly make
You mindful of the tide times, if you are a visitor and not aware of just how low things can get it would present a bad situation when you got back to the ramp.
