not fair...

Not fair! went for a dive today - had a Dhuie swim towards my speargun (talk about temptation) then found a bunch of crays shortly after!  If only it was a week later and there was no 2 month ban - i'd be eating like a king tonight!

Was still good to get out for a dive though:)

Also came across a Wobbegong - are these any good to eat?

heres a small vid - http://s915.photobucket.com/albums/ac360/waynel2/Diving%20Pics/?action=view&current=nov-09-1.flv

Anyone else go for a dive or fish?

Wobby tastes fine but ... but they are really hard to get a kill shot on, and as will most sharks, really good at bending spears. Just remember they're just about the only shark that can reach its tail with it's mouth so you're not bite-safe holding onto the tail.

Protection?

Sun, 2009-11-08 10:36

Wouldn't be a bad idea as a bit of protection incase you had a curious shark.  I know up north we have plenty of enquiries that a quick bump on the nose with the gun fixes.

Perth waters are pretty

Sun, 2009-11-08 14:18

Perth waters are pretty boring doesn't tend to be much of an issue.

Its hard though, I always want to take my spear but I just haven;t bothered lately seeing as so much is off agenda, and table.

you got a problem with spearos or something alfred they got they got the right to go for a swim and carry a gun some people target small sambos or small shark there are still plenty of species to target. if some one was drifting in 30m of water for kgs and got a dhuie or pinky and let it go unharmed would you have something to say then he didnt touch the fish it will still be waiting for you on the 15th of dec your not going to miss out on anything

morning fellas - interesting

Sun, 2009-11-08 07:39

morning fellas - interesting point bout the sharks bending the spears, hadn't thought of that one!

I Was carrying my mates spear more for practice than anything.  Looking at getting one myself so I was firing plenty of practice shoots and yeah if I saw a big flattie, or KG  I would of had a crack at one of those.

Yeah looking forward to going back to that spot next sunday:)  hopefully we can find the same ledge;)

I am pretty sure I wouldn't

Sun, 2009-11-08 08:35

I am pretty sure I wouldn't spear a shark, they are nasty on the deck when you pull one up, so I wouldn't like to swim with an angry one. Having a spear hanging out your shoulder generally makes most things angry.

Getting a nice fat KG on spear is a lovely thing. Hanging around on the weed and sand is the hard part, although I once saw a couple dozen hanging in reef in close at Rotto. Damn the no spear zones over there.

Yummy crays

Sun, 2009-11-08 08:05

we've caught wobbiegongs, cut up and straight in the freezer for a couple of weeks, then thawed breadcrumbed (seasoned) and straight on the bbq, they are a nuisance when craying in Leeman get in your pots but have noticed since we have to have the bolt in (due to baby seals in the area drowning) we're not getting as many, good thing.  Hopefully the weather gods will be good next week end for all you divers and everybody putting their pots in for yummy crays.

if you cook wobbys well they taste very good. but yes breaking spears is their fav thing to do. they rap around rocks so its hard to get them out of their caves but if u can get one out into the open then aim between the eyes but a bit back. very hard to get a kill shot though. best method is tanks with a really thick gidgy. unlucky about the dhuies and crays though
