NSS7 screen shots 55 - 75m

I have posted these on another thread, but thought I would put here to start things off.  These were last week off Ocean Reef. Its a standard 600w Lowrance transducer and about the only setting you cant see on the screen was the noise reduction which I varied according to if the motor was running, trying to keep it as low as possible. In some shots I am using the bottom lock function. Lost a big strike on the bottom bait ball. suspect it was a sambo.

Are you talking about the last one?  It was set to 50 kHz and we had just moved off without increasing the noise reduction.  Hence all the 'noise'.

Bear in mind that this is the first time I have used this unit.  It's brand new.  Give me a chance to learn how to tweak it.  I reckon the first shot in 54 m of water to pick up fish arches on the bottom on a first day use isn't a bad effort.

And I would rather have the gain set a bit higher and have more detail rather have it set lower and miss something. :)

These units also have some other very handy features that I haven't seen on other units...  The ability to scroll back the screen and mark a GPS spot in fish or structure you passed some time ago...  That same ability to mark spots off to the side of the boat if you are using structure scan...

So far I am very happy with it.

Yep, scrollback is awesome

I wouldnt be using anything other than 200khz in water less than 150mtrs. 50khz sends the signal to the  bottom and back to the transducer at a slower ping speed to give a more true reading.

Thanks for sharing, and keep playing with the unit.

Thanks.  It was an experiment for me.  200 it will be until I get put real deep.  Compared yo my last sounder which barely registered the bottom in 70 m, this is a treat!

Just a little confused. Is the Anchor symbol there because you anchored, or is it the "current" boat position displayed as a anchor?

Mine is marked as a fish symbol, but doesnt appear on the sounder. Having said that I havent got a designated sounder plotter but a topnotch combo.

The bottom looks sussed out, now you need to work on tuning out that surface clutter, hard to find bait balls with it crammed liek that, i'm suprised in auto it'd show all that?

Really as you get deeper you up the gain and the closest objects (or interference) are the most pronounced so....I think.... and someone please correct me if Im wrong.....the sounder times the return readings and puts more emphasis on the longest time (deepest) returns to compensate for this.

So a same size fish at depth "looks" the same as one closest to the surface rather than looking "more solid"

 Ha ha. Very quick beau.

The anchor us there purely because that is the default symbol when I add a way point.

The unit wasn't in auto at the time.  I never use auto.  Always manual.

As you said its always in Manual, so you purposely added the Anchor because of Freo! No lies - did you? LOL

simrad 7"evo 2 touchscreen sea trial

Fri, 2014-11-28 09:28

Well yesterday I finally got out and played around with my new unit. I have fitted a B175H 1KW through hull chirp tranny to my unit. At first the unit was quite confused in shallow water but once in about 10 metres of water it sorted its self out. One issue I had was too much clutter on the screen and tried to turn down the gain but then lost alot of resolution. As mentioned before I might have to turn up the TVG. I am also running a 585 alongside it and must say the 585 at this point (until I tweek the evo more) certainly has a clearer and better picture. Hopefully when I get out into the 200 odd metre mark the evo in the chirp mode should produce the goods. Any feed back about the clutter problem would be appreciated.
