Octa jigs vs lucanus jigs

What colour do you think works best and which jig is better in 10-15m size and type, also best way to attach them. cheers.

Used to use Lucanis jigs but now go for the octa jigs - cheaper and slightly bigger hooks are the only reason.
10-15m - depending on current should need anything to big/weighty.
Attach mine with a decent quality snap swivel for ease of changeovers.

can tied direct to the jig if you want (loop knot best).
Colour ?? - what ever works on the day
- caught snapper etc. on both pink and green/blue. Start with the pink one and if no luck change over to the green.

PS snapper in my avatar was on a pink lucanis...

Good luck

I ( dont) see red

Thu, 2014-02-20 14:45

Last year at coral bay we were gunna kill the ( red) pig on every jig , octa , and plastic known to man.

We had caught snaps , dhuie , wrasse , sambos , baldies etc, you name it on the same things in Perth.

Over the 2 weeks we tryed just about every day up there , but just had to keep going back to bait to land anything decent.

Yes we tryed all the different things you do with plastcs and jigs but to no avail, a mate spent a whole day with them , near

the end of the trip just to prove he could do it, yep , nothing !

Very odd, returned to perth , first day out , bang fish on jigs , plastic etc, must have just been one of those trips aye.

I'd go a soft plastic myself

I'd go a soft plastic myself in that depth but jigs will still catch fish, - probably worth a downsize to the smaller ones though

I recon what ever you use in

Thu, 2014-02-20 17:02

I recon what ever you use in that depth, a leftys loop knot and lightest fluorocarbon leader you dare (I'm useing 20lb) is the go, heavy leader n clips n swivels may spook the fish and effect the action of the lure. It doesn't take to long to tie a new one on and you can always rig two rods b4 you go too, let one bounce away n work the other.

Fri, 2014-02-21 07:36

Cheers guys, no snapper well black bum on fresh squid head, nothing on jigs, burleyed up with wheat n tuna soaked chook pellets + prawn shells. Had 2 baited rods using scalies n fresh dead yellowtail + fresh squid heads, 2 jig rods with 1 green jig n 1 pink jig tied to jig 50lb leader 1m. 2pm-4.30pm outside reef 40ft not 5fm inside, wind blew up abit to strong for 4.1m dingy, sun down would of been nice. cheers axey.
