PayPal scam
Submitted by OLD BANGA on Thu, 2013-05-23 20:01
I have my Stacer Runabout for sale on Fishwrecked and Gumtree, I have just had contact from krhowes9@gmail.com wishing to purchase the boat and asking a few questions and then agreeing to a price but would only pay through PayPal and was not interested in looking at the boat before the purchas, that is when I started to think something was not right. I advised the supposed purchaser that I was only interested in a cash sale or EFT transaction, I have not heard from the buyer since. Just be cautios if selling any item and the purchaser is willing to purchase site unseen and wants to pay via PayPal.
Cheers

yeah, real dodgy. They make
yeah, real dodgy. They make the payment to you so it shows up in your paypal account. Then they reverse the transaction. It takes a couple of days for your account to show the reversal, and in that time they've taken delivery of your goods and done a runner.
I never use paypal, and always meet the person I'm buying off, or selling to.

How this scam works?
The pretendender buyer contacts saying they are interested in the item and they are ok with the price and without inspection of the items they say they can only make paypal payment as they are overseas or interstate with no acces to bank due to remote locaation etc and you receive a mail from paypal that someone has sent you money and ask you to login to view details....
this email looks genuine and innocent victims login to paypal via that link and th page auto closes after loggin in so the seller ends up opening the paypal account via another browser to see no funds in the account........that fake website the scammer builds receives your paypal account and they withdraw money from you linked bank accounts.
so always remember do not open any bank/paypal links via links on email......always open brand new window and trye the url in manually.
How do i know all this? I got scammed by one of these pricks and reported to paypal.
