PB Pinky, just in time!

Whilst the Sound has gone quiet i still dont give up. Went out last night again, looking around everywhere and the last spot to check just on sundown showed some good fish. Been looking at this spot over the many trips before but quiet, how things change quickly!

I said to the boys that we might get the tail end of the feed and that we did. I tagged & released my captures and the boys kept some to take home. We got busted up by many more....some good en fish!

Carl with his PB pink snapper, just in time before the ban....weighed 8kg!

nice one Ryan

Nice one Ryan..

How were the conditions last night ??

Tried getting out in the sound yesterday morning with my young bloke..

Unfortunately the wind and swell was enough to scare the bejesus out of him and begged and pleaded to go back to the ramp.... aarrrggghhhh !!

Drove down to Challenger beach to have a look out for the pro..

Sure enough he was out there hauling them in him accompanied with 1 other boat....

Considered heading out again for a look in the evening but couldn't be stuffed.

Oh well, until the 1st of Feb...

Paul.

Nice Snapper, you need patience for catching Snapper in the Sound, I have very little and get cold and Hungry so I'm crap at it.

When it comes to pinks in the sound I don't think theres too many others that know their spots like Ryan.  Woulda gone like a freight train!  Good effort.

Conditions!

Wed, 2008-10-01 18:18

The conditions were good Paul, W 10-15 knots and yeh the morning Seabreeze "Live" forecast showed average conditions as mentioned. That got me more pumped for the arvo fish ie the stir up & the lull.

Cheers Adam, these suckers have intrigued me for years and the new Fisheries study gives me a reason to get back out there!

Ironically the same mate, 15.56 to 16.11 .... i reckon that windy front pushed fish in and made them hungry. They had alot of coral & weedy crap in their guts. The males were developed and females semi. One male milted so they're not far off starting their thing....just a bit more water temp rise!

Top fish without a doubt!

Wed, 2008-10-01 20:32

Top fish without a doubt!  In my opinion there is always some stonkers floating about, ive seen a few meself. Also agree with adam without sounding like to much of a poofter.......i think ryans had that sound stiched up for years expecially large pinkies on fly at night. Thats skill that not too many others have done.

pretty awsome in my books.

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

no probs!

Thu, 2008-10-02 11:05

No probs Zen, we'll get out soon mate!

Yeh the last 10 years i've kept a Cockburn Sound diary and the first week or two in September gets a few smaller schools moving through after the stormy fronts. I was in Exmouth so I missed that but the yak boys and few others got into em. They then go quiet for a bit for the majority and then when the temp rises...not too far off now they come in "big schools & quantity"

We've tagged & released some biggens to 13kgs, the ban is on at the right time October > so hopefully more of these bigger fish will do their thing!

Cheers

Top fishing mate. Research like yours hopefully gets looked at when 'they' make decisions regarding bans.

Looking forward to getting out for a fish with you soon.

Soupster

Three days without it and I get a little jumpy
